Can I Use HSS If My Services Are Not Deployed on HUAWEI CLOUD?

This issue is relevant only for CN-Hong Kong, AP-Singapore, and CN South-Guangzhou regions.

Yes. You can install the agent on HUAWEI CLOUD ECSs, BMSs, offline servers, and third-party cloud servers in the same region to manage them in a unified manner.

For better compatibility and service experience, you are advised to use HUAWEI CLOUD servers.

To make non-HUAWEI CLOUD servers access HUAWEI CLOUD HSS, bind the servers to EIPs and install the agents suitable for their OSs.

If information similar to the following is displayed, the agent is successfully installed:

    Hostguard is running.
    Hostguard installed.

  6. Run the service hostguard status command to check the running status of the agent.

If the following information is displayed, the agent is running properly:

    Hostguard is running

Installing a Windows Agent

There are two ways to install an agent. This section describes the first one.

  • Method 1: Download the agent installation package, upload it to a server, and run the installation command on the server to install the agent.
  • Method 2: Log in to a server, log in to the management console from the server, and download and install the agent.
  1. Log in to the management console.
  2. In the upper left corner of the page, select a region, click , and choose Security & Compliance > Host Security Service.
  3. In the navigation pane on the left, choose Installation and Configuration. On the Install Agent tab, download the agent package.

  4. Remotely log in to the server where you plan to install the agent.

Log in to the server using Windows Remote Desktop Connection or a third-party remote management tool, such as pcAnywhere and UltraVNC, and install the agent on the server as an administrator.

  5. Upload the agent installation package to the server where the agent is to be installed.
  6. Run the agent installation program as an administrator.

Select a server type on the Select host type page.

Non-HUAWEI CLOUD server: Select Other Cloud Host. Copy the value of Org ID from the agent installation page.

  7. Check the HostGuard.exe and HostWatch.exe processes in the Windows Task Manager.

If the processes do not exist, the agent installation fails. In this case, reinstall the agent.
