Creating a BMS in a Shared VPC

Scenarios

You can create a BMS in a VPC subnet that another account has shared with you. This allows for more efficient use of network resources and reduces O&M costs.

For example, to make network resource management easier, you can use one account to manage the IT network resources, such as VPCs and subnets, of other accounts. Suppose you have three accounts, A, B, and C:

  • Account A: the IT management account and the resource owner. You can use it to create a VPC and share subnets in it with other accounts.
  • Account B: a service account that uses shared subnets. In this example, you can use account B to create BMSs in Subnet-02 shared by account A.
  • Account C: a service account that uses shared subnets. In this example, you can use account B to create BMSs in Subnet-03 shared by account A.

This section describes how to purchase a BMS in a shared VPC. For more information about VPC subnet sharing, see VPC Sharing.

Notes

  • You can receive a maximum of 100 shared subnets.
  • VPC sharing is free. You only need to pay for the resources you create in the shared subnets.

Prerequisites

You have created a VPC and subnets using account A and shared the VPC to account B. For details, see Creating a Resource Share.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Resource Access Manager console using account B and accept the resource share.

For details, see Responding to a Resource Sharing Invitation.

  2. Go to the BMS console to purchase a BMS.
  3. Configure parameters required for purchasing a BMS.

In the Configure Network step, select the VPC and subnet shared by account A.
