Changing an EIP

Scenarios

You can change the EIP of an ECS as needed. To do so, unbind the EIP from the ECS first and then bind a new EIP to it. The ECS can access the public network over the new EIP.

If there are no available EIPs, assign one first.

Before replacing an EIP, evaluate the impact on services to prevent network interruption.

Operation

Constraints

Assigning an EIP

If an EIP is released by mistake, the system will preferentially assign you an EIP that you have released in the last 24 hours.

If you want to bind a new EIP to your ECS, you are advised to purchase one first before unbinding the original EIP.

For details, see What Is the EIP Assignment Policy?

Unbinding an EIP

  • An EIP cannot be unbound if its server is suspected of violations and the EIP is frozen by the national supervision department.

For details, see Why My EIPs Are Frozen? How Do I Unfreeze My EIPs?

  • Your account will be frozen if it is in arrears and you cannot perform any operations on pay-per-use resources in the retention period. After you top up your account, you will be billed for expenditures generated by the pay-per-use EIPs. You can view the expenditures on the Overview page of the Billing Center.

Binding an EIP

  • An EIP can only be bound to an ECS from its same region.
  • An EIP can only be bound to an ECS from its same account.
  • An EIP cannot be bound to a frozen ECS.

Description

Reference

1

Unbind an EIP from an ECS

After an EIP is unbound from an ECS, the ECS can no longer access the public network through it.

2

Assign a new EIP

If you already have an EIP that you require, skip this step.

Assigning an EIP

3

Bind a new EIP to the ECS

After the new EIP is bound to the ECS, it can access the public network through it.

4

Release the unbound EIP

  • If you still need the unbound EIP, skip this step.
  • If you no longer need the unbound EIP, release it to avoid additional billing. If you do not release an unbound EIP that is billed on pay-per-use basis, it will continue to be billed.

Releasing or Unsubscribing From an EIP

Unbinding an EIP

  1. Log in to the management console.
  2. Click in the upper left corner and select a region and project.
  3. Locate the row containing the target ECS and choose More > Unbind EIP in the Operation column.
  4. Confirm the displayed information and click OK.

Unreleased EIPs will continue to be billed. To stop the EIPs from being billed, release them.

Binding a New EIP

  1. Log in to the management console.
  2. Click in the upper left corner and select a region and project.
  3. Locate the row containing the target ECS and choose More > Bind EIP in the Operation column.
  4. Select the desired EIP and click OK.

If no EIP is available in the current region, the EIP list is empty. In such a case, purchase an EIP and then bind it.
