Unbinding an EIP
Scenarios
This section describes how to unbind an EIP from an ECS.
- You no longer need the EIP.
- You want to bind the EIP to another instance.

After an EIP is unbound from an ECS, the ECS can no longer access the public network. Before unbinding an EIP, ensure that the ECS does not need to access the public network or an alternative network connection is available.
Constraints
- An EIP cannot be unbound if its server is suspected of violations and the EIP is frozen by the national supervision department.
For details, see Why My EIPs Are Frozen? How Do I Unfreeze My EIPs?
- Your account will be frozen if it is in arrears and you cannot perform any operations on pay-per-use resources in the retention period. After you top up your account, you will be billed for expenditures generated by the pay-per-use EIPs. You can view the expenditures on the Overview page of the Billing Center.
Billing
If you unbind an EIP in pay-per-use billing mode but do not release the EIP, you will be billed for:
- The EIP reservation price
- The bandwidth price (if the EIP is billed by bandwidth)
If the EIP is no longer used, release it as instructed on the console. For details, see Releasing or Unsubscribing From an EIP.
For details about EIP billing, see EIP Billing.
Procedure
- Log in to the management console.
- Click
in the upper left corner and select a region and project.
- Click
. Under Compute, click Elastic Cloud Server.
- Locate the row containing the target ECS and choose More > Manage Network > Unbind EIP in the Operation column.
- Confirm the EIP to be unbound and click OK.
Follow-up Procedure
If an EIP is no longer used, you can release or unsubscribe from it. For details, see Releasing or Unsubscribing From an EIP. If you do not release an unbound EIP in pay-per-use billing mode, it will continue to be billed.
