SMS mainly migrates data assets and configuration assets.

• Data assets: Persistent data on source server disks is categorized as data assets. The Agent does not change the data assets on source servers. It only transfers the data assets to target servers and performs necessary configurations to ensure that the target servers can start up properly. Data assets are directly transmitted from source servers to target servers without being forwarded by any third party. To enhance the transmission security, you are advised to configure the security groups of target servers to allow access only from source servers' IP addresses.
• Configuration assets: Source server information registered with SMS and migration tasks you configured are categorized as configuration assets. Configuration assets are used to control the migration process and are stored in the SMS database. After the migration is complete, you can delete all configuration assets.
