Binding a Global EIP

Scenarios

Global EIPs provide global internet access for cloud instances. You can specify a global region and a global EIP pool to assign a global EIP, and bind the global EIP to a cloud instance from any region to enable communications between a cloud resource and the Internet.

You can create a global EIP and bind it to an ECS so that the ECS can access the Internet.

This section describes how to bind a global EIP to an ECS.

Constraints

• A global EIP can only be bound to one ECS at a time. Multiple ECSs cannot be bound to the same global EIP.
• After a global EIP is bound to an ECS, the VPC of the ECS cannot be changed, and no more EIP can be bound to the ECS.
• To bind an IPv6 global EIP to an ECS, ensure that IPv6 is enabled for the ECS to support both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. For details, see Enabling IPv6 for a Network Interface.

• Global EIPs cannot be bound to frozen ECSs.

Prerequisites

Before binding a global EIP to an ECS, complete the following operations:

1. You have bought a global internet bandwidth to connect the global EIP to the Internet.
2. You have bought a global connection bandwidth for communication over the backbone network.
3. You have created a global internet gateway to connect the VPC of the ECS to the global EIP.
4. You have assigned a global EIP to the ECS to access the Internet.

Procedure

1. Log in to the ECS console and access the ECS list page.
2. In the ECS list, select the target ECS and choose More > Manage Network > Bind Global EIP in the Operation column.
3. Locate the target global EIP, and click Bind Instance in the Progress column.

   The page for binding an instance is displayed.

4. Select the region that the instance to be bound is located.

   A global EIP can be bound to an instance in any region.

5. Select the type of the instance to be bound and then select the instance.
6. Select the global internet gateway to be bound.

   The system automatically lists the global internet gateway of the VPC that the instance belongs to, if there is one.

7. Click Next.
8. Configure Global Connection Bandwidth, Bandwidth Name, and Bandwidth as prompted.

   If there is no global connection bandwidth, click Manage Global Connection Bandwidth to create one. For details, see Buying a Global Connection Bandwidth.

9. Click OK.

   In the global EIP list, you can see that the global EIP has an instance bound.
