Integrating a Monitoring System

In enterprise-grade IT O&M management, to ensure stable system running, multiple monitoring systems need to be integrated to monitor the system statuses comprehensively. However, the integration configuration of each monitoring system requires an independent procedure, and each system needs to be integrated separately. As a result, the configuration process is complex and time-consuming. To simplify this process and improve O&M efficiency, COC introduces the following methods:

Integration configuration aims to provide you with an easy and quick way to interconnect COC with existing and third-party monitoring systems, such as Huawei Cloud Eye, AOM, and other monitoring platforms. The core value is to collect alarm data scattered in different monitoring systems of the same service to implement centralized management.

Different monitoring systems use dedicated integration access keys for the interconnection process. With the keys, the access permissions of each system are controllable and the systems are isolated from each other, improving the stability, security, and independence of the interconnection.

After the monitoring systems are integrated, you can view raw alarm information. After alarm conversion rules are configured, the raw alarms can be converted to incidents or aggregated alarms.

What Is Integration?

Huawei COC delivers the configuration capabilities for quickly integrating Huawei Cloud Eye, Application Operations Management (AOM), and various third-party and custom monitoring systems into one platform for unified data management. It uses dedicated integration access keys to ensure secure interconnection. COC allows you to centrally manage alarm information from different monitoring platforms for the same service, eliminating monitoring blind spots and simplifying the O&M configuration process for multiple monitoring sources. You can perform O&M operations such as enabling, disabling, and refreshing integration identifiers for monitoring systems that have been integrated. This enables unified receiving, viewing, and transfer of alarm data, improving overall IT O&M efficiency and system interconnection security.

What Is a Custom Monitoring System?

A custom monitoring system refers to a non-standard monitoring platform or program developed by users or third parties. It is not an official standard monitoring service such as Huawei Cloud Eye or AOM. Users can use standard APIs provided by COC to report alarm data from these platforms to COC for unified alarm management.

Integrating a Monitoring System

COC supports different monitoring systems. The integration configuration of each monitoring system has an independent integration procedure. The following describes the integration procedure for some systems.

  1. Log in to COC.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Fault Management > Data Sources.
  3. On the displayed page, locate the monitoring system you want to integrate and click Integrate.
  4. Click Submit in the lower right corner. In the displayed dialog box, click OK.

    The monitoring system is moved from the To be integrated area to the Integrated area.

  5. Complete the monitoring system integration based on the integration procedure displayed on the page. The integration procedure varies depending on the monitoring system. For details, see the content displayed on the console.

    After the monitoring system integration is complete, the system receives the source data from the monitoring system.

A maximum of five monitoring systems can be integrated for customized integration. If the integration is incorrect, disable it and then delete it.

  1. Log in to COC.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Fault Management > Data Sources.
  3. In the To Be Integrated area, locate Other Monitoring Systems and click Integrate.

    The detailed integration procedure is displayed.

  4. Enter the short name and full name of the monitoring system to be integrated and click the button for confirming the integration in the lower right corner.
  5. Integrate a Huawei-built monitoring system.

    Alarm management data can be ingested using the POST method. For details, see Ingesting Alarms from a User-developed Monitoring System.

  6. Check whether the integration is successful.

    In the navigation pane, choose Fault Management > Data Sources. In the Integrated area, check whether the status of the monitoring system you integrated is Enabled. If it is, the integration is successful.

Enabling and Disabling Integration of a Monitoring System

After Integrating a Monitoring System, you can enable or disable the monitoring system on the Data Sources page.

AOM and AOM Kafka cannot be enabled at the same time. Otherwise, duplicate data will be generated.

  1. Log in to COC.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Fault Management > Data Sources.
  3. Locate the target monitoring system and enable it.

    After the monitoring system is enabled, COC will receive raw alarms. You can view these alarms in the alarm management module of COC by referring to Viewing Raw Alarms.

  1. Log in to COC.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Fault Management > Data Sources.
  3. Locate the target monitoring system and disable it.

    After the monitoring system is disabled, the system will not receive raw alarms. Exercise caution when performing this operation.

Updating an Integration Sign

The integration sign is the key identifier for integrating a data source. You can replace the original signs with one click.

Updating an integration sign will invalidate the original one. Exercise caution when performing this operation.

  1. Log in to COC.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Fault Management > Data Sources.
  3. Click the monitoring system whose integration sign you want to update.
  4. On the displayed page, click in the Integration Sign area to update it.

Viewing Raw Alarms

After the monitoring system is integrated, you can view the raw alarms on the Alarms page.

Raw alarms are generated based on the alarm data collected from multiple existing or third-party monitoring systems (such as Cloud Eye, AOM, and Prometheus).

Note: By default, the page displays alarm data collected in the last 31 days.

  1. Log in to COC.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Fault Management > Alarms.

    The raw alarm list displays the alarm name, alarm status, alarm severity, alarm source, and associated application.

  3. On the Original Alarm tab page, click an alarm name to view its details.

    The alarm details include basic alarm information (such as the alarm name, severity, source, region, and application), resource information (such as the resource ID, resource name, namespace, cluster ID, workload, and resource type), and attachment information.
