Batch Changing OSs on COC
In routine cloud service management, you may need to update or change the OS of cloud instances to meet service requirements or solve system problems. However, traditional OS change typically requires manual operations on each instance, slowing down the process and increases manual misoperations. To address this challenge, COC delivers the batch OS change function. With this function, you can batch reinstall OSs on instances based on the selected image. You can change the OS of one instance individually or change OSs of multiple instances in batches. This improves the operation efficiency and accuracy.
Precautions
- Changing an OS does not affect data on data disks, but all partition data on the system disk and all snapshots created for the system disk will be deleted. Therefore, back up your data by referring to Creating a Server Backup.
- Some OSs do not support SCSI EVS disks. After the OS of an ECS is changed, SCSI EVS disks attached to the ECS may become unavailable. For details, see Which ECSs Can Be Attached with SCSI EVS Disks?
- The ECS will be automatically restarted after the OS change, and custom settings (such as the DNS and hostname) will be reset.
- If any instance is running, you need to stop the instance before performing this operation.
- If no instance is running, you can submit the execution task.
- If any service ticket (for example, an instance restart service ticket) is being executed on the selected instance, the current operation cannot be performed. Wait until the existing service ticket is complete and try again.
Billing
Fees will be generated if you change the OS of an instance. To view the fees, go to Billing Center.
Constraints
Currently, only ECSs and FlexusL ECSs support batch OS change.
Batch Changing OSs
COC enables you to centrally change OSs of ECSs and FlexusL instances. You can change the OS of a single instance or change the OSs of multiple instances in batches.
- Log in to COC.
- In the navigation pane, choose Resource O&M > Batch Resource Operations.
- Access the Elastic Cloud Server (ECS) tab page, click Change OSs. The page for changing ECS OSs is displayed.
- Click Add and select the target instances.

Batch Policy
Select Automatic, Manual, or No Batch.
- Automatic: The selected instances on which you want to perform operations are automatically divided into multiple batches based on the default rule.
- Manual: You can manually create multiple batches and add instances to each batch as required.
- No Batch: All instances on which you want to perform operations are in the same batch.
Suspension Policy
You can set a target execution success rate. If the number of failed servers reaches the threshold derived from this success rate, the service ticket is flagged as abnormal and execution stops immediately.
The success rate ranges from 0 to 100 with precision to one decimal point.
Stop ECS
Select Stop now under Stop ECS. When the service ticket starts to be executed, the instances that are not stopped will be stopped automatically.
Image
Select an OS image type and select the corresponding image from the drop-down list.
- Public image: A public image is a standard OS image and is visible to all users. A public image consists of an OS and preinstalled public applications. You can use a public image to create an ECS and deploy related software based on the service requirements.
- Private image: A private image is created from an ECS or external image file and is visible only to the user who created it. A private image contains an OS, preinstalled public applications, and a user's personal applications. Creating an ECS with a private image eliminates repeated task configurations.
- Shared image: A shared image is a private image shared with other users.
Timeout Interval
Maximum time threshold for the target instance to complete the batch OS change process after the system executes the OS change command.
The value ranges from 1 to 1800, in seconds.
Login Mode
A collection of identity information used to verify the user identity and log in to the target system after batch OS change is complete.
- Password: You can use the current ECS password or enter a new one.
- Key pair: You can select a key pair in the Key Pair Service module.
- Reset password: Before logging in to the ECS, reset the password.
- Click OK to go to the confirmation page. Click OK to start the execution.
The service ticket details page is displayed.
- Log in to COC.
- In the navigation pane, choose Resource O&M > Batch Resource Operations.
- Click the FlexusL tab and click Change OSs. The page for changing the OS is displayed.
- Click Add and select the target instances.

Viewing the Execution Records of Service Tickets for Batch OS Change
After a batch OS change operation is performed, a resource operation service ticket record is generated to record the batch resource operation result. If you want to monitor and record the execution objects and results of a batch resource operation, you can use the resource operation ticket function.
- Log in to COC.
- In the navigation pane on the left, choose Task Management > Execution Records. The task execution records page is displayed.
- Click Resource Operation Service Tickets.
- Click the ID of the service ticket you want to view. The service ticket details page is displayed.
On the service ticket details page, you can view the service ticket execution status, such as the start time, end time, status, and execution duration.
- You can also perform the operations listed in the following table based on the service ticket status.

If you want to pause the next batch when the current batch is executed, click Pause in the upper right corner.
Click Forcibly End in the upper right corner to end the resource operation service ticket.

Click Continue in the upper right corner to continue the resource operation service ticket.
Click Forcibly End in the upper right corner to end the resource operation service ticket.
Abnormal
Click the Abnormal tab in the Execution Information area. Locate an abnormal batch and click Retry in the Operation column.
Select an abnormal batch and click Batch Retry above the instance to re-execute all abnormal tasks in this batch.
Click the Abnormal tab in the Execution Information area. Locate an abnormal batch and click Cancel in the Operation column.
Select an abnormal batch and click Batch Cancel above the instance to cancel all abnormal tasks in this batch.
