Changing a Backup Name

Scenarios

During routine operations, a large number of policy-driven backups accumulate in the vault as backup tasks continue to run. These backups often have system-generated names (for example, autobk_20251230_123456), which may not be intuitive and can make it difficult to quickly identify the related service, server, or key point in time. When you need to restore a specific application (such as an ERP system or a database) or restore a resource to a previous state, clear and meaningful backup names greatly improve search efficiency and operation accuracy.

By changing a backup name, you can add a custom identifier (for example, RHEL8_OAsystem_BackupBeforeUpgrade_20251230) to either a manual or automated backup, making subsequent management and restoration much easier.

This section describes how to change a backup name.

Prerequisites

There is at least one backup.

Constraints

• Duplicate backup names are allowed.
• If the name of a backup is changed and the prefix is deleted, you may find it difficult to know whether it is an automatic backup or a manual backup.

Procedure

1. Log in to the CBR console. Click in the upper left corner and select a region.
2. Click the Backups tab and set filter criteria to view the backups.
3. Click the name of the target backup to go to the backup details page.
4. Click next to the backup name. A backup name can be up to 64 characters. Only letters, digits, underscores (_), and hyphens (-) are allowed.

   • CBR automatically adds the autobk_ prefix for you to differentiate automatic backups from manual backups. You are advised to retain the autobk_ prefix.
   • CBR can differentiate automatic backups from manual backups no matter you delete the prefix or not. Automatic backups expire based on the retention rule of the backup policy.

5. Enter a name and click . Then, you can view the new backup name in the backup list.
