What Is Key Management

In cryptography and network security, keys are used to encrypt and decrypt data. This can be thought of as the key required to lock a door – the same key is also needed to unlock it (symmetric encryption algorithms are typically used for encrypting large volumes of data). A key is usually a long, complex string of characters or numbers. Its purpose is to ensure that even if an attacker intercepts the encrypted data, it will be extremely difficult to decipher the data's content without the correct key.

Depending on varying security level requirements and the specific security management needs of different organizations, this system supports the following two key derivation methods:

  • Database encryption system – generated and managed locally.
  • Obtained via Huawei Cloud KMS.

Enter the Key Management Page

  1. Logging In to the Database Encryption System using the system administrator (sysadmin) account.
  2. Select Rule Management > Key Management from the left menu to access the Key Management page.
