Introduction to Custom Monitoring
On Huawei Cloud, you can use Cloud Eye to create alarm rules to monitor metrics or events and send alarm notifications. When a cloud service is abnormal, Cloud Eye sends alarm notifications to the specified recipients in real time.
You can monitor the metrics you are concerned about and report the collected monitoring data to Cloud Eye through simple API requests for processing and display. This enables full-link monitoring from resources to services.
Process

The preceding figure shows the following workflow:
- An API is called to report metric data to Custom Monitoring.
- The custom metric data triggers a configured alarm threshold.
- Alarm notifications are sent to subscribers through a specified channel.
Prerequisites
- You have registered a Huawei Cloud account and completed real-name authentication.
- You have created the resources to be monitored, such as ECSs and load balancers.
Setting Exception Monitoring for Custom Metrics

| Add custom metric data using an API. | Call the API provided by Cloud Eye to report custom monitoring data. For details about the API, see Adding Monitoring Data. |
| Create alarm rules and enable notifications for your custom metrics. | On the Cloud Eye console, choose Custom Monitoring, locate the row containing the target cloud service resource, click Create Alarm Rule in the Operation column, and configure the trigger conditions and alarm notification settings. For details about how to create an alarm rule, see Creating an Alarm Rule. |
| A metric triggers the preset threshold. | When a metric triggers a preset alarm condition, Cloud Eye notifies you of the exception by SMS, email, FunctionGraph (function), FunctionGraph (workflow), WeCom, DingTalk, Lark, WeLink, HTTP, or HTTPS. In this way, you can quickly rectify the fault to prevent service loss caused by resource exceptions. |
| Cloud Eye sends an alarm notification. | You can view alarm notifications on the configured endpoints for receiving alarm notifications and view historical alarms in the alarm records of Cloud Eye. |
