Basic Edition
In the Basic edition, control plane components are deployed in your cluster to provide non-intrusive governance, telemetry, and security management for your services. Istio 1.8, 1.13, 1.15, and 1.28 are supported. Only one cluster and up to 200 pods can be managed.
As shown in Figure 1, istiod, a control plane component, is deployed in your cluster to manage the Envoy components of other services. This is how Istio is conventionally deployed.
