Best Practices for Local Disks
Background
Disk-intensive, ultra-high I/O, and Kunpeng ultra-high I/O ECSs come with local disks with high storage bandwidth and IOPS. They are suitable for scenarios that require high I/O performance, fast data exchange, and processing of massive amounts of data.
Local disks are deployed on the host where ECSs reside and provide local storage access. They are cost-effective and provide high storage IOPS, low latency, and high throughput. Since local disks are mounted to an individual host, their data reliability depends on the reliability of the host. If there are host exceptions, local disk exceptions, or instance redeployment, data stored on local disks will be lost. So, do not use local disks for long-term storage of service data. If you require high data reliability, you are advised to use EVS disks that support three-copy redundancy.
Local Disk Types
ECSs coming with local disk types are described as follows:
- NVMe SSD local disks: Used for ultra-high I/O ECSs, including Ir3, I3, Ir7, I7, aI7, Ir7n, I7n, and Kunpeng ultra-high I/O kI1 series
- SATA HDD local disks: Used for disk-intensive ECSs, including D7 and D6 series
- SAS HDD local disks: Used for disk-intensive ECSs, including D3 and D2 series

Local Disk Lifecycle and Billing
Local disks share the same lifecycle and billing mode as the ECS. Their costs are included in the costs of the ECS.

Impacts of ECS Operations on Local Disk Data
Table 1 describes the impacts of routine ECS operations on local disks and local disk data.

Purchasing Local Disks
You can purchase local disks by purchasing an ECS with local disks.

If you require high data reliability, you are advised to purchase other types of instances that use EVS disks with higher reliability. For more instance types, see A Summary List of x86 ECS Specifications.
Local Disk Troubleshooting
If a local disk is damaged, the system will trigger an event and send an event notification. You can handle the fault based on the fault scenario and event notification.
