Configuring a Default LakeFormation Instance

After an LakeFormation instance is created, you can set it to a default LakeFormation instance on the Overview page of the instance.

If no instance ID is specified when other services connect to a LakeFormation instance, the system automatically accesses the default instance.

Constraints

If other services have been interconnected with the default LakeFormation instance, changing the default instance may affect these services. Exercise caution when performing this operation.

Setting an Instance as Default

  1. Log in to the LakeFormation console.
  2. Select the target LakeFormation instance from the drop-down list box on the left.
  3. Check the value of Default Instance in the Basic Information area.

    • true indicates that the instance is the default instance.
    • false indicates that the current instance is not the default instance.

If the current instance is the default instance, the Set as Default button is unavailable.

  4. To set the instance as the default one, click Set as Default in the upper right corner of the page, confirm the operation impact, and click OK.

If other services need to connect to LakeFormation and no LakeFormation instance ID is specified, the system automatically accesses the default instance. This default instance change may affect these services. Exercise caution when performing this operation.
