Changing the Backup Method
Scenarios
RDS for PostgreSQL allows you to switch between physical backups and CBR snapshot backups. Compared with physical backups, CBR snapshot backups provide faster backup and recovery at a similar cost. If your instance has terabytes of data, use CBR snapshot backups.
Constraints
- To change the backup method in certain regions, submit a service ticket.
- For details about the constraints and billing of physical backups and CBR snapshot backups, see Configuring Same-Region Backup Policies.
- If the storage space exceeds 4,000 GB, the backup method for the instance is automatically set to snapshot backup and cannot be changed.
Procedure
- Log in to the RDS console.
- Click
in the upper left corner and select a region. - On the Instances page, click the instance name to go to the Summary page.
- Choose Backups & Restorations in the navigation pane and click the Full Backups tab.
- Click
on the right of Backup Method. Figure 1 Changing the backup method
- In the displayed dialog box, select a backup method and click OK.
- After the change, check the new backup method on the Full Backups page.
