Audio and Video Upload

Functions

After the VOD service is enabled, you can upload media files to VOD for management. The VOD console can be used in the following ways:
  • Local upload: upload media files stored on local disks to VOD.
  • Pull from URLs: pull source files from their URLs and then upload them to VOD.
  • Audio and video Hosting: authorize VOD to host media files in OBS buckets so that VOD can process them. The processed media files can be stored in OBS buckets.

Constraints

Formats of media files that can be uploaded are as follows:
  • Video: MP4, TS, MOV, MXF, MPG, FLV, WMV, AVI, M4V, F4V, MPEG, 3GP, ASF, and MKV
  • Audio: MP3, OGG, WAV, WMA, APE, FLAC, AAC, AC3, MMF, AMR, M4A, M4R, WV, and MP2

If the name of the file to be uploaded contains spaces, the spaces will be deleted after the file is uploaded.

Prerequisites

  • To categorize media files, create categories by referring to Category Settings.
  • To keep yourself informed of the upload progress, configure event notifications by referring to Overview.
  • To transcode these files, create a transcoding template by referring to Transcoding Settings.
  • To process these files using a workflow, create a workflow by referring to Transcoding Settings.

Local Upload

During local upload, do not refresh the page, clear the browser cache, or close the browser. If no operation is performed for a long time during file upload, you will be logged out. As a result, the upload fails.

  1. Log in to the VOD console.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Audio and Video Uploads > Local Upload.
  3. Click Upload File. The Upload File dialog box is displayed.
  4. Click Add File to add a local media file, or directly drag a file to the file area.

  5. Switch on Preventing Duplicate File Uploads to avoid waste of time and storage space.

Configure this parameter as required. If you add a duplicate media file, an error message is displayed in the upper right corner.

  6. Categorize uploaded files, change the file names, or process these files.

    Figure 2 Processing media files
    • If media file processing is not required, retain the default settings.
    • If media file processing is required, click Process and configure parameters according to the following table.

      Method

      Transcoding Template/Workflow

      Transcoding template group

Select a preset template group or custom template group created by referring to Transcoding Settings.

      Workflow

Select an existing workflow or create a workflow by referring to Workflow Settings.

  7. Click Upload.

How long upload takes depends on the file size and network conditions.

  8. View media file information on the Audio and Video Management page.

After a video file is uploaded, the system selects the first frame as the thumbnail by default. If a transcoding template group or workflow was configured during media file upload, the configured parameters will automatically apply to the media file processing.

Pull from URLs

  1. Log in to the VOD console.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Audio and Video Uploads > Pull from URLs.
  3. Click Pull from URLs and enter the media file URLs.

You are not advised to attach sensitive information such as authentication credentials to the URLs that pull content.

Figure 3 Entering media file URLs

The URLs must meet the following requirements:

    • A URL must contain the filename extension, for example, https://xxxx.mp4.
    • Multiple URLs are separated by line breaks and up to 100 URLs are allowed.
    • Currently, only HTTPS and HTTP are supported. HTTP has security risks. HTTPS is recommended.

  4. Determine whether to process the obtained media files.

    • If media file processing is not required, retain the default settings.
    • If media file processing is required, click Select on the right of Audio and Video Processing and configure parameters according to the following table.

      Method

      Transcoding Template/Workflow

      Transcoding template group

Select a preset template group or custom template group created by referring to Creating a Template Group.

      Workflow

Select an existing workflow or create a workflow by referring to Workflow Settings.

  5. Click OK. You can view the task status in the URL pull list.

When the status becomes Completed, the pull is successful. You can view media file information on the Audio and Video Management page.

Audio and Video Hosting

If your media files are stored in Huawei Cloud OBS buckets, you can only use this method to authorize VOD to manage and process these files. The files processed by VOD can be stored in the VOD service or OBS buckets. For details, see Overview.
