Unsubscriptions from In-Use Resources
If you unsubscribe from a yearly/monthly resource currently in use, you will be billed for how much you have already used and also for some handling fees.
Unsubscription Rules
- When you are unsubscribing from resources that are currently in use, the refunded amount is calculated based on the paid amount of the order. The used cash coupons will be returned proportionally based on the original payment structure.
- If the calculated refund is less than 0, no refund will be issued.
- If you have renewed the subscription, you are also allowed to unsubscribe from the in-use resources in the subscription and the renewal period that has not started.
- Your request to unsubscribe from a large order (over $7,000 USD) needs to be reviewed by your account manager. For details, see What Should I Know Before Unsubscribing from a Large-value Order?
- Solution product portfolios and smaller packages can only be unsubscribed from as a whole.
- In any given order, bound resources must be unsubscribed from as a whole, but associated resources can be unsubscribed from separately.
Example: You subscribed to a monthly ECS with a system disk associated and a VPC configured. When you unsubscribed from the ECS, the system disk must also be unsubscribed from, while the VPC can be unsubscribed from separately.
Updated Rules for Calculating Refunded Amounts
Starting from 10:00 (GMT+08:00) on August 17, 2026, Huawei Cloud will update the return rules for cash coupons in unsubscription scenarios on the official website. The new rules will be gradually rolled out in batches. For details, see Notice on Updating Cash Coupon Return Rules in Certain Unsubscription Scenarios.
- If you used cash coupons for payment but the coupons cannot be returned during unsubscription (the refund does not include the coupon amount), it is likely that your account has not been upgraded. If needed, you can submit a service ticket to contact the customer service for an account upgrade. Try again after the upgrade is completed.
- If you have upgraded your account, cash coupons can be returned when you unsubscribe from products within the scope covered by the updated rules. When cash coupons are used to purchase yearly/monthly products, one-off products, or resource packages, the cash coupons will be returned proportionally based on the original payment structure upon unsubscription.
- Cash coupons cannot currently be returned for refunds resulting from specifications downgrades.
- Full-reduction coupons and dedicated cash coupons cannot be returned.
Calculation of Refund
Refund = Paid amount + Used cash coupons – Consumed amount – Unsubscription handling fee
- Paid amount refers to the amount you actually paid with your cash account and flexi-purchase coupons, excluding any payment in cash coupons.
- Consumed amount = (Paid amount + Used cash coupons) × (Actual usage duration/Order duration) (Both the actual usage duration and the order duration are rounded to the nearest hour.)
Table 1 Unsubscription parameters Parameter
Description
Order duration
This is calculated from the hour when the order takes effect. For example, if you purchase a resource at 10:30, the order duration starts from 10:00.
Actual usage duration
This is calculated based on the next top of the hour when the unsubscription is performed. For example, if you unsubscribe from a resource at 18:40, the actual usage duration will be considered to have ended at 19:00.
Example: If you purchased a monthly EVS disk at 10:30:00 on January 01, 2026, and it expired at 23:59:59 on February 01, 2026, then the order duration was 31 days and 14 hours (from 10:00:00 on January 01, 2026 to 00:00:00 on February 02, 2026). If you unsubscribed from the EVS disk at 18:40:00 on January 08, 2026, then the actual usage duration was 7 days and 9 hours (from January 01, 2026 10:00:00 to January 08, 2026 19:00:00).
- Unsubscription handling fee covers the portions applied to the account balance, flexi-purchase coupons, and cash coupons. The handling fee depends on the actual usage duration and subscription term, as illustrated in the following table.

Billing Examples
- Example 1: Unsubscribing from a resource that is not renewed
Example: Suppose you purchased a monthly EVS disk at 10:30:00 on January 01, 2026, and the EVS disk would expire at 23:59:59 on February 01, 2026.
You unsubscribed from the EVS disk at 18:40:00 on January 08, 2026.
- Payable amount: $90.00 USD
- Used cash coupons: $10.00 USD
- Paid amount: $80.00 USD
- Total order duration: 31 days and 14 hours (including the hour when the order was placed)
- Actual usage duration: 7 days and 9 hours (including the hour when the unsubscription was initiated)
- Consumed amount: ($80.00 USD + $10.00 USD) × (7 days and 9 hours/31 days and 14 hours) ≈ $21.02 USD
- Handling fee: $90.00 USD × 10% = $9.00 USD
- Refund: $90.00 USD – $21.02 USD – $9.00 USD = $59.98 USD
- Cash coupon returned: $59.98 USD × (10/90) ≈ $6.66 USD
- Amount refunded to balance: $59.98 USD – $6.66 USD = $53.32 USD
- Example 2: Unsubscribing from a resource that has been renewed
Suppose you purchased a monthly ECS at 10:30:00 on March 01, 2026, and the ECS would expire at 23:59:59 on June 01, 2026.
- Total order duration: 92 days and 14 hours (including the hour when the order was placed)
- Payable amount for the purchase order: $300.00 USD
- Paid amount for the purchase order: $300.00 USD
At 18:40:00 on March 21, 2026, you renewed the ECS for one month. After the renewal, the ECS would expire at 23:59:59 on July 01, 2026.
- Payable amount for the renewal order: $100.00 USD
- Paid amount for the renewal order: $100.00 USD
You unsubscribed from the ECS at 18:40:00 on April 01, 2026.
- Actual usage duration: 31 days and 9 hours (including the hour when the unsubscription was initiated)
- Consumed amount: $300 USD × (31 days and 9 hours/92 days and 14 hours) ≈ $101.66 USD
- Handling fee: $300 USD × 10% = $30 USD
- Refund: $300 USD – $101.66 USD – $30 USD + $100 USD = $268.34 USD
Unsubscription Rules for Reserved Instances
The following table describes how refunds are calculated and the payment options for reserved instances. See the unsubscription page for the final refund.
| All Upfront | No Upfront | |
|---|---|---|
| Fee | Remaining value – Handling fee | Handling fee |
| Remaining value | Cash × Remaining duration/Total duration | —— |
| Unsubscription handling fee | Upfront amount (Cash + Cash coupons) × Remaining duration/Total duration × 12% | Amount per hour × Total subscribed hours × Remaining duration/Total duration × 12% |
| Formula | Cash × Remaining duration/Total duration – Upfront amount (Cash + Cash coupons) × Remaining duration/Total duration × 12% (Cleared when the unsubscribed amount is less than 0) | Amount per hour × Total subscribed hours × Remaining duration/Total duration × 12% |
| Payment method | Money returned by Huawei is paid immediately upon unsubscription. | Payment to Huawei is settled monthly. RI coupons can be used. |
- When you unsubscribe from an all-upfront reserved instance, the used cash coupons will not be returned.
- Order amount = Upfront amount (Cash + Cash coupons) + Amount per hour × Total subscribed hours
- Unsubscription handling fee = Order amount × Remaining duration/Total duration × 12%. For a no-upfront reserved instance, the handling fee is deducted based on the following order of priority: Cash coupons > Balance.
- Remaining duration: The number of remaining valid hours starting from the next full hour. For example, if the unsubscription is executed at 10:30, the remaining duration will start from 11:00.
- For an all-upfront reserved instance, if the calculated refund is less than 0, it is cleared and no payment is required.
Example 1
Suppose you purchased a 1-year reserved instance and paid $100 USD ($50 USD cash coupon + $50 USD balance) in advance. Half a year later, you want to unsubscribe from the reserved instance. The remaining value of the reserved instance is $25 USD and the handling fee is $6 USD. In this case, an actual refund of $19 USD is all returned to the account balance.
Example 2:
Suppose you purchased a 1-year reserved instance and paid $100 USD ($90 USD cash coupon + $10 USD balance) in advance. Half a year later, you want to unsubscribe from the reserved instance. The remaining value of the reserved instance would be $5 USD and the handling fee would be $6 USD. In this case, the refund is less than $0 USD, so no payment is required.
Procedure
- Access the Unsubscriptions page.
- Choose In-use > Unsubscription Allowed.
- Unsubscribe from a single instance or multiple instances in a batch based on the actual requirements.
You can search for instances by instance ID/resource ID, instance name, order No., product specifications, product type, region, or validity period. You can also filter instances by enterprise project if you have enabled enterprise project management.
- Single unsubscription: Click Unsubscribe in the Operation column for the instance which you want to unsubscribe from.

- Batch unsubscription: Select the target instances and click Batch Unsubscribe on top of the list.

- Single unsubscription: Click Unsubscribe in the Operation column for the instance which you want to unsubscribe from.
- Review the unsubscription and refund details. Choose an unsubscription reason, select the confirmation checkbox, and then click Confirm.

- Before unsubscription, ensure that data on the resources to be unsubscribed from has been backed up or migrated. After unsubscription, the resources will be deleted, and their data cannot be restored. Exercise caution when performing this operation.
- In an unsubscription from a composite product (for example, ECS + image + EVS), of which some are provided by Huawei Cloud and others by a third party, Huawei Cloud refunds you only money spent for the products billed by Huawei Cloud. You need to contact the specific service provider for the refund details.
