What Are the Differences Between Local Upload and Audio and Video Hosting?

Local upload and audio and video hosting are two media upload methods available for VOD:

The differences are:

  • Storage method
    • Media files in VOD are stored in an OBS bucket. However, the OBS bucket is owned by VOD and invisible, and does not occupy the OBS space. You do not need to subscribe to the OBS service.
    • Media files stored in OBS can be kept in the OBS bucket or hosted by VOD.
    • Output files can be stored in VOD or the OBS bucket. For details, see Audio and Video Hosting.
  • Billing
    • Local upload: Input files and output files are both stored in VOD. Therefore, VOD charges the storage space fee.
    • Hosting: Input media files are stored in OBS buckets. Therefore, the storage of input files is billed by OBS. Billing for the output is related to the configured storage location. If Storage Location is VOD, storage is billed by VOD. If Storage Location is OBS bucket (same as the input files), storage is billed by OBS.
    • Processing of uploaded or hosted media files is billed by VOD.
