Upload via the Console

Function Overview

After subscribing to the VOD service, you can upload audio and video files to VOD for management using one of the following methods:
  • Local Upload: upload audio and video files stored on local disks to VOD.
  • Pull from URLs: pull source files from their URLs and then upload them to VOD.
  • Audio and Video Hosting: authorize VOD to host audio and video files in OBS buckets so that VOD can process them. The processed media files can be stored in OBS buckets.

Constraints

Formats of audio and video files that can be uploaded are as follows:
  • Video file formats: MP4, TS, MOV, MXF, MPG, FLV, WMV, AVI, M4V, F4V, MPEG, 3GP, ASF, and MKV
  • Audio file formats: MP3, OGG, WAV, WMA, APE, FLAC, AAC, AC3, MMF, AMR, M4A, M4R, WV, and MP2

If the name of the file to be uploaded contains spaces, the spaces will be deleted after the file is uploaded.

Prerequisites

  • To categorize audio and video files, create categories by referring to Category Settings.
  • To keep track of the upload progress, configure event notifications by referring to Notification Settings.
  • To transcode these files, create a transcoding template by referring to Transcoding Settings.
  • To process these files using a workflow, create a workflow by referring to Workflow Settings.

Local Upload

During local upload, do not refresh the page, clear the browser cache, or close the browser. If you do not perform any operation for a long time when uploading a large number of files, you will be logged out. As a result, the upload fails.

  1. Log in to the VOD console.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Audio and Video Uploads > Local Upload.
  3. Click Upload File. The Upload File dialog box is displayed.
  4. Click Add File to add a local media file, or directly drag a file to the file area.

  5. Switch on Preventing Duplicate File Uploads to avoid waste of time and storage space.

Set this parameter based on your needs. If you add an existing media file, an error message is displayed in the upper right corner.

  6. Categorize uploaded files, change the file name, or process them.

    • If audio and video processing is not required, retain the default settings.
    • If audio and video processing is required, click Process and configure parameters according to the following table.

      Method

      Transcoding Template/Workflow

      Transcoding template group

Select a preset template group or custom template group created by referring to Transcoding Settings.

      Workflow

Select an existing workflow or create a workflow by referring to Workflow Settings.

  7. Click Upload.

How long upload takes depends on the file size and network conditions.

  8. View audio or video file information on the Audio and Video Management page.

After a video file is uploaded, the system selects the first frame as the thumbnail by default. If a transcoding template group or workflow was configured during audio or video file upload, the configured parameters will automatically apply to the audio or video file processing.

Pull from URLs

  1. Log in to the VOD console.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Audio and Video Uploads > Pull from URLs.
  3. Click Pull from URLs and enter audio and video URLs.

    • Only HTTP and HTTPS are supported.

  4. Determine whether to process the obtained audio and video files.

    • If audio and video processing is not required, retain the default settings.

Audio and Video Hosting

If your audio and video files are stored in HUAWEI CLOUD OBS buckets, you can only use this method to authorize VOD to manage and process these files. The files processed by VOD can be stored in the VOD service or OBS bucket. For details, see Audio and Video Hosting.
