Replicating a Disk to a New Desktop

Scenarios

When using Windows or Linux desktops, the tenant administrator can switch the operating system on the management console with a single click. This applies when upgrading a Windows desktop (e.g., from Windows 10 to Windows 11) or migrating data from a Linux desktop. During the process, both the system disk and data disk of the original desktop are preserved, enabling users to seamlessly transfer their data to the new environment.

Notes and Constraints

• Unassigned desktops do not support this operation.
• Only desktops in a static desktop pool support this operation.

Procedure

1. Log in to the console.
2. In the navigation pane, choose Desktops > Desktop Pools.

   The Desktop Pools page is displayed.

3. In the desktop list, click the name of a desktop pool to view its basic information.
4. Replicate desktop disks to a new desktop one by one or in batches.
   • Replicating disks to a new desktop one by one
     1. Locate the target desktop, and choose More > Disks and Snapshots > Replicate Disk to New Desktop in the Operation column.
     2. Go to the Replicate Disk to New Desktop page.
   • Replicating disks to a new desktop in batches:
     1. Select the target desktops in batches, and choose More > Disks and Snapshots > Replicate Disk to New Desktop above the list.
     2. Go to the Replicate Disk to New Desktop page.
     3. Confirm the operation, and enter YES or click Auto Enter.
     4. Click OK. The Replicate Disk to New Desktop page is displayed.
        

        When replicating disks to new desktops, the selected desktops must have the same billing mode, AZ, and image, and cannot be in the deleting status.

5. Configure the desktop information based on Table 1.

   Specifications	CPU Architecture	Select the CPU architecture of the desktop to be replicated. If the desktop is using the x86 architecture, retain the default value x86.
   	Package Type	Select the specifications of the new desktop.
   Image Management	Image Type	A public image is a widely used standard image provided by Workspace. It contains an OS and pre-installed public applications and is visible to all users. Public images are very stable and their OS and any included software have been officially authorized for use. You can also create an application environment and then deploy required software. Currently, Windows public images are marketplace images. A private image is created based on an existing cloud desktop or external image file and is visible only to the user who created it. It contains an OS, preinstalled public applications, and the user's personal applications. Using a private image to create a desktop saves more time.
   	OS	Select the OS and image as required.
   Disk Configuration	System Disk	Select the system disk of the new desktop as required.
   	Source Desktop Disk	Select the disk to be replicated as required. NOTE: You can select the disks to replicate. After a desktop is created, it has the same data as the source desktop. To ensure that data is flushed to disks, the source desktop will be stopped.
   	Disk Encryption (Optional)	Select Encryption to go to the encryption page. Select Select existing key. Select the required key from the Key Name drop-down list. Click OK. Select Enter key ID. Enter a key ID in the text box. You can view the key ID in the key list. Click OK. A KMS key can be custom, default, or shared. Default key: The key that is automatically created by EVS through KMS and named evs/default. The default key cannot be disabled or scheduled for deletion. For details about how to generate a default key, see Default Key. Shared keys: You can use DEW to create grants that allow other accounts to share your keys. For details, see Creating a Grant. Custom keys: You can select an existing key or create a key. For details about how to create a custom key, see Creating a Custom Key. Key sharing via resources: You can use Resource Access Manager (RAM) to share your keys with other accounts via resource sharing. For details, see Sharing Your Resources. NOTE: For yearly/monthly cloud desktops, you cannot use RAM to share keys across projects under the same account. If disk encryption is enabled for the original desktop, you must enable disk encryption for the new desktop and ensure that the key is the same as that of the original desktop. If disk encryption is not enabled for the cloud desktop, you can choose whether to enable disk encryption for the new desktop as required.
   Network Settings	Network	A Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) is an isolated, configurable, and manageable virtual network environment for cloud desktops. Your cloud desktops will be created in the selected VPC subnet to facilitate your access to the resources and applications on the enterprise intranet. Select the VPC, subnet, and IP address assignment type as required.
   	Desktop Internet Access (EIP)	Buy now By Bandwidth: applicable when the traffic is heavy or stable and the bandwidth ranges from 1 Mbit/s to 200 Mbit/s. You can customize the bandwidth as prompted. NOTE: You are billed based on the purchased duration and bandwidth size. By Traffic: applicable when the traffic is small or fluctuates greatly and the bandwidth size ranges from 5 Mbit/s to 200 Mbit/s. You can customize the bandwidth as prompted. NOTE: You specify a maximum bandwidth and pay for the outbound traffic you use. Use existing: Bind an existing EIP to the desktop. Not required: To enable desktop Internet access, go to Internet Access Management on the Workspace console.
   Advanced Settings (Optional)	Tag	By default, the tag is the same as that of the source desktop. If you need to redefine the tag, do it after the new desktop is provisioned.
   Other Configurations	OU (Optional)	You can select an OU only in the AD scenario.
   	Enterprise Project	This parameter is available only for enterprise users. Select the desired enterprise project from the drop-down list.
   	Source Desktop VM	Delete: The source desktop VM will be deleted after the new desktop is provisioned. Retain: The source desktop VM will be retained after the new desktop is provisioned.
   Quantity	Quantity	By default, the number of desktops to be selected is displayed.

6. Confirm the configuration information and select I have read and agree to Image Management Service Statement.
7. Click Buy Now.
