Expanding the Disk Capacity

Scenarios

If the system disk or data disk of a desktop pool or desktops in the desktop pool is insufficient, you can expand the disk capacity. This section describes how to expand the capacity of system disks or data disks for desktop pools and desktops in the pools.

Notes and Constraints

  • You can expand the capacity of a system disk or data disk only when the desktop pool is in the Running or Stopped status.
  • Only one disk can expand capacity in a desktop pool at a time.
  • The desktop will be restarted during disk capacity expansion.
  • During disk capacity expansion, the latest expansion snapshot will be deleted. The snapshot generated during the capacity expansion will be automatically deleted seven days later.
  • If desktops' disk sizes differ from the desktop pool's settings, you are advised to align them to ensure a consistent user experience. You can filter desktops with inconsistent disk sizes and expand the capacity of disks in batches.
  • The maximum capacity of a system disk is 1,020 GB. The capacity of a desktop can only be a multiple of 10. That is, the capacity of a system disk can be expanded only to 1,020 GB.
  • The maximum capacity of a data disk is 8,200 GB.

The available capacity for expansion depends on the initial data disk size.

    • If the initial data disk size is less than 1,020 GB and the capacity of a desktop can only be a multiple of 10, the maximum data disk capacity is 1,020 GB. The excess capacity cannot be used.

If a data disk needs to be expanded to over 1,020 GB, you must change the disk partition style from MBR to GPT. For details, see Data Disk Initialization. During the change, services will be interrupted and the original data will be cleared. Therefore, back up the data before changing the partition style.

    • If the initial data disk size is greater than 1,020 GB and the capacity of a desktop can be expanded only by a multiple of 10, the maximum data disk capacity is 8,200 GB.
  • For desktops in IES edge AZs, the available system disk and data disk capacity for expansion depends on the remaining resources in the AZs and must be an integer multiple of 10.
  • After the capacity of a Linux EVS disk is expanded, the disk will not be partitioned by default. For details about how to partition the disk, see Extending Disk Partitions and File Systems (Linux).

Procedure

You can expand the disk capacity in the following three scenarios. Select a scenario as required.
