Breaking Down RRs

Raw requirements (RRs) are classified into initial requirements (IRs), system requirements (SRs), and allocated requirements (ARs). They correspond to level 1, level 2, level 3, and level 4, respectively. Specifically, RRs can be broken down into IRs, IRs into SRs, and SRs into ARs. AR is the minimum unit of R&D requirements and cannot be further broken down.

Only RRs in the Planning or Implementing state can be broken down.

Prerequisites

  • A project has been created.
  • An RR has been created.

Procedure

  1. In the RR list, click in the row where the requirement to be broken down is located. The Break Down Subrequirements dialog box is displayed.

Other projects can be selected in Responsible Project. Configure a downstream project by referring to Configuring Downstream Projects.

  2. Enter the child requirement information.

Click to expand and configure more information. For details about how to set parameters, see Creating R&D Requirements.

  3. Click OK. The requirement is broken down.

The methods of breaking down into SRs, and ARs are the same as that of breaking down into IRs. An AR can be duplicated, but cannot be broken down again. If an IR's Responsible Project is not the current project, SRs and ARs need to be broken down in Responsible Project.

You can also view and edit the broken-down IRs, SRs, and ARs on the R&D Requirements page.

After the breakdown, the states of parent R&D requirements will be rolled up to the states of child R&D requirements.

If you break an IR into an SR and change the state of the SR, the change will be synchronized to the IR.

If you break the SR into an AR and change the state of the AR, the change will be synchronized to the SR and the IR.
