Monitoring OBS
Scenarios
In the use of OBS, you may continuously send PUT and GET requests that generate upload and download traffic or receive error responses from the server. Huawei Cloud provides Cloud Eye to help you better understand the status of your OBS buckets. You can use Cloud Eye to monitor your OBS buckets, perform automatic real-time monitoring, and configure alarm reporting and notifications. This helps you track requests to your buckets, analyze bucket usage, and understand the workload trends of your buckets, enabling you to promptly identify and resolve issues.
You do not need to separately subscribe to Cloud Eye. It starts automatically once you create a resource (a bucket, for example) in OBS. For more information about Cloud Eye, see What Is Cloud Eye?
OBS monitoring metrics are classified into request metrics and storage metrics. For details, see OBS Monitoring Metrics. Monitored OBS Events describes the event types supported by OBS.
Important Notes
Bucket names are globally unique. If you delete a bucket and recreate one with the same name, the monitoring data and alarm rules of the deleted bucket will be applied to the new one. You are advised to clear the alarm rules associated with the deleted bucket or reconfigure monitoring and alarm rules after creating a bucket with the same name.
Monitoring OBS
You can use the following methods provided by Cloud Eye to comprehensively monitor OBS, as shown in Figure 1.
Cloud Service Monitoring
Cloud Eye is automatically enabled after you create a resource (for example, an OBS bucket). You can view the running status of the resource on the Cloud Eye console. For details, see Viewing a Cloud Service Dashboard.
Monitoring Dashboards
You can customize your monitoring dashboard to aggregate the key service metrics in one panel so that you can observe the monitoring data flexibly. The dashboard also allows you to compare metrics across different services and dimensions within a single monitoring item, helping you analyze performance differences between cloud services.
Monitoring dashboards are classified into the default dashboards and custom dashboards. For more information about monitoring dashboards, see My Dashboards.
- Monitoring dashboards
The built-in monitoring dashboards offer default graphs based on the resource utilization and core metrics of key cloud services. By simply enabling a dashboard, you can easily visualize and monitor key metrics across your cloud resources.
Monitoring dashboards are ideal for scenarios where you need to monitor the overall resource usage of key cloud services. If you want to quickly create a view for overall resource monitoring but are not sure which metrics to configure, monitoring dashboards are recommended.
After creating a monitoring dashboard, you can still adjust the graphs as needed.

- Custom dashboards
Custom dashboards allow you to view monitoring data as needed. If the default monitoring dashboards of Cloud Eye cannot meet your service requirements, you can create custom dashboards, add monitoring graphs, and view custom monitoring data. You can also edit or delete the monitoring graphs on the custom dashboard.
Custom dashboards can display the monitoring data trends of multiple instances, compare the data of multiple monitoring items, and sort instances by resource consumption.

Alarm Rules
Cloud service monitoring supports alarm reporting for monitoring metrics. You can set alarm rules for key metrics of cloud services. When the conditions in the alarm rule are met, Cloud Eye sends emails, SMS messages, or HTTP/HTTPS messages, enabling you to quickly respond to resource changes and service exceptions. For more information about alarm rules, see Alarm Rules Overview.
You can create alarm rules on the Cloud Eye console to monitor OBS resources. Alternatively, you can enable one-click monitoring for OBS to quickly enable alarm reporting for all its resources. In this way, you will be notified in a timely manner when any resource becomes abnormal. When one-click monitoring is enabled, the alarm rules you selected are added to the alarm rule list. When one-click monitoring is disabled, these alarm rules are deleted from the alarm rule list.
