Edge Gateway

An edge gateway can connect subnets in the same VPC that is used in both HomeZones and central AZs in parent regions.

You need to buy an edge gateway to transmit data plane data across HomeZones and central AZs in parent regions. IEC provides you with a 1 Mbit/s free bandwidth. You need to create an edge gateway and bind it to the global private bandwidth of a cloud connection to ensure data communication between the central AZ in the parent region and the HomeZones.

  1. Data transmission on the service plane requires the edge gateway and the global private bandwidth bound. Some cloud services also use the edge gateway and bandwidth. So it is necessary for you to create an edge gateway.
  2. Data transmission (including VM images, upgrade packages, and O&M monitoring data) on the basic service management plane uses the management line of the IEC. You do not need to create an edge gateway and a bandwidth for management plane data transmission.

Procedure

  1. Buy an edge gateway. Edge gateways and global private bandwidths can work together to allow resources from the central and edge subnets, and from different edge subnets in VPCs to communicate with each other through an internal network.
  2. Create an edge connection. Edge connections allow subnets from central AZs in parent regions and edge AZs, and from different edge AZs in VPCs to communicate with each other through an internal network. You need to create edge connections for central AZs in parent regions and edge AZs. Only one edge connection needs to be created for the AZs that belong to the same network border group.
  3. Bind a global private bandwidth of a cloud connection to an edge connection to enable resources from the central and edge subnets, and from different edge subnets to communicate with each other.
  4. You need to purchase a global private bandwidth (regional bandwidth) for the central AZ in the parent region and HomeZones. The global private bandwidth is used for backbone network communication in the cloud.
  5. Modify the global private bandwidth of an edge connection.
