Managing Resource Tags

As the business scale of an enterprise expands, the number of cloud resources in an account increases (for example, multiple cloud servers, multiple cloud databases, and storage resources in different regions). You need to frequently filter resources and assign permissions. In this scenario, it is difficult to distinguish resources only by resource name or group, which cannot meet the efficient management requirement. Then, how can we efficiently manage them to quickly filter, classify, and precisely control resources when we are faced with the challenge of a larger number of resources under an account? The Tag Management Service (TMS) can help you manage cloud resources under an account.

To add the same tag to different cloud resources, use TMS to create predefined tags. For details, see Creating Predefined Tags.

TMS enables you to use tags on the management console to manage resources. TMS works with other cloud services to enable tag management. TMS manages tags globally, and other cloud services use these tags to manage their specific tasks.

  • A tag consists of a key and value. You can add only one value for each key.
  • Each instance can have up to 10 tags.

Adding a Resource Tag

  1. Log in to COC.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Resources > Application and Resource Management.
  3. In the resource list, locate the target instance and move the cursor to in the tag column. In the displayed window, click Tag Management.

    If the tag column is not displayed in the resource list, click on the right of the filter box and select Label.

  4. On the tag management page, click Add Tag to add a tag to the resource.

    • When you enter a tag key and value, the system automatically displays all predefined tags associated with the current user.
    • The tag key can contain a maximum of 128 characters and cannot start or end with a space, or start with _sys_. It can contain letters, digits, spaces, and the following special characters: _.:=+-@
    • The tag value cannot start or end with a space. It can contain letters, digits, spaces, and the following special characters: _.:=+-@. A maximum of 256 characters are allowed.

  5. Click OK. The tag is added.

    After adding a tag, you can filter resources by tag key or value.

Modifying Resource Tags

  1. Log in to COC.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Resources > Application and Resource Management.
  3. In the resource list, locate the target instance and move the cursor to in the tag column. In the displayed window, click Tag Management.

    If the tag column is not displayed in the resource list, click on the right of the filter box and select Label.

  4. In the tag list, click the key or value text box of a tag and enter a new key or value.
  5. Click OK. The tag is modified.

    After the tag is modified, you can use the new tag to filter resources.

Deleting a Resource Tag

  1. Log in to COC.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Resources > Application and Resource Management.
  3. In the resource list, locate the target instance and move the cursor to in the tag column. In the displayed window, click Tag Management.

    If the tag column is not displayed in the resource list, click on the right of the filter box and select Tag.

  4. In the tag list, locate the tag to be deleted and click .
  5. Click OK. The tag is deleted.

    After a tag is deleted, the number of tags displayed in the resource tag column decreases.
