Bandwidth Package Overview
What Is a Bandwidth Package?
A bandwidth package is required for communications between network instances across regions. You can assign inter-region bandwidths from a bandwidth package to enable cross-region communications.
- A bandwidth package is required for inter-region communications regardless of whether:
- The two regions are within the same geographic region.
- The two regions are in different geographic regions.
- Bandwidth packages are not required for communications among network instances in the same region.
Constraints on Bandwidth Packages
- A bandwidth package can only be bound to one cloud connection.
- A cloud connection can only have one bandwidth package bound if the geographic region and billing mode of the bandwidth packages are the same.
- No bandwidth packages are required if two VPCs are in the same region because they can communicate with each other by default after they are loaded to the same cloud connection.
- The geographic regions of a bandwidth package cannot be changed after it is purchased.
Bandwidth Package Usage Process
Figure 1 shows the process of using a bandwidth package. A bandwidth package cannot be used independently. You need to bind it to a cloud connection and assign inter-region bandwidths.

|---|---|---|---|
|
1 |
Purchase a bandwidth package. |
A bandwidth package is a required by a cloud connection to provide inter-region bandwidths for communications between network instances in different regions. Bandwidth packages are not required for communications between network instances in the same region. |

|
2 |
Bind the bandwidth package to a cloud connection. |
Bind the purchased bandwidth package to a cloud connection to prepare for assigning inter-region bandwidths. |
Binding or Unbinding a Bandwidth Package to and from a Cloud Connection |
|
3 |
Assign an inter-region bandwidth. |
Assign inter-region bandwidths for communications between network instances in different regions. If there is more than one inter-region bandwidth, the sum of all inter-region bandwidths cannot exceed the total bandwidth of the bandwidth package. |
