Quickly Purchasing a Desktop Pool and Logging In to a Desktop Within It

Scenarios

A desktop pool is a collection of image desktops with same specifications. It provides administrators with unified management and O&M capabilities for a group of desktops within a project. Administrators can create and manage desktop pools. Desktops within a pool support batch configuration, rapid scaling, and unified policy management. They are suitable for secure office, teaching and training, and mobile office scenarios. Desktop pools also provide a flexible deployment model and keep all data securely in the cloud.

Description

Preparations

Sign up for a HUAWEI ID, enable Huawei Cloud services, complete real-name authentication, top up your account, and create resources such as VPCs, subnets, and security groups.

Step 1: Buy a Desktop Pool

Log in to the Workspace console and purchase a desktop pool.

Step 2: Log In to a Desktop Within the Desktop Pool

Log in to a desktop within the desktop pool using the downloaded SC, TC, or mobile client.

Preparations

  1. Sign up for a HUAWEI ID and complete real-name authentication.

Before purchasing a desktop, sign up for a HUAWEI ID, enable Huawei Cloud services, and complete real-name authentication.

If you have already enabled Huawei Cloud services and completed real-name authentication, skip this step.

  2. Top up your account.

Ensure that your account has sufficient balance. For details, see Topping Up an Account.

  3. Plan networking resources, such as VPCs and subnets.

When you are purchasing a desktop, the system creates a default VPC and subnet.

If you do not want to use the default VPC and subnet, you can create a VPC and subnet in the desired region in advance. For more information, see VPC Network Planning Suggestions.

  4. Create a security group and add rules to it.

When you are purchasing a desktop, the system creates a default security group. For details about default security groups, see Default Security Groups and Rules.

If the default security group and rules cannot meet your service requirements, you can modify the rules. For details, see Configuring Security Group Rules.

Step 1: Buy a Desktop Pool

The following is an example for your reference only. For more details, see section "Purchasing a Desktop or Desktop Pool" in the Workspace User Guide (Administrators).

  1. Log in to the Workspace console.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Desktops > Desktop Pools. The Desktop Pools page is displayed.
  3. Click Purchase Desktop Pool. The Purchase Desktop Pool page is displayed.
  1. Configure basic settings.

    Billing Mode

Desktops will be billed based on the usage duration. You can provision or delete resources at any time. For more information, see Billing Overview.

    Region

For low network latency and fast resource access, select the region nearest to your target users. Once a desktop is purchased, its region cannot be changed. Exercise caution when selecting a region.

For more information, see Regions and AZs.

    CN South-Guangzhou

    Project

A project corresponds to a region. Projects group and isolate compute, storage, and networking resources across physical regions. Users can be granted permissions in a default project to access all resources in the region associated with the project. For more refined access control, create subprojects under a project and purchase resources in the subprojects. Users can then be assigned permissions to access only specific resources in the subprojects.

    cn-north-1

    Pool Name

User-defined desktop pool name. The value contains 1 to 15 characters. Only uppercase letters, lowercase letters, digits, and hyphens (-) are allowed.

    DesktopPools

    AZ

After you select Random, the system will select a default AZ based on your Universally Unique Identifier (UUID). Once a desktop pool is purchased, its AZ cannot be changed.

    Parameter

    Description

    Example Value

    Minimum Desktops

Minimum number of desktops reserved in a desktop pool. If the total number of desktops exceeds this value and idle desktops outnumber reserved idle desktops, the excess idle desktops will be automatically deleted. If the total number of desktops falls below this value, desktops will be automatically created to reach this value.

    1

    Reserved Idle Desktops

To improve user access efficiency, some idle desktops (those not assigned to users) can be reserved in a desktop pool. If the number of idle desktops in the current desktop pool does not reach the maximum number of auto-created desktops, desktops will be automatically created to reach the value of reserved idle desktops.

    1

    Maximum Auto-Created Desktops

Set this limit to prevent excessive, unnecessary costs from continuous auto-creation in a desktop pool.

    1

    Idle Desktop Retention Duration

Excess idle desktops (not assigned to users) in a desktop pool can be retained for a configured duration before being automatically deleted. Excess idle desktops: This value represents the difference between total idle desktops and reserved idle desktops, when total desktops in a desktop pool outnumber minimum desktops.

    0

    Binding Retention Duration upon Disconnection

After a client user disconnects from a desktop, the desktop can be retained for a period of time. After the retention period expires, the desktop is automatically unbound from the user and reset.
