Access Mode
Plaintext or ciphertext access is available.
- Plaintext access: Clients access a Kafka instance without SASL authentication.
- Ciphertext access: Clients access a Kafka instance with SASL authentication. To enable Ciphertext Access, specify a security protocol, SASL mechanism, SSL username, and password.

FAQ

How Do I Change the SASL_SSL Setting of a Kafka Instance?

The SASL_SSL setting of a cluster Kafka instance can be changed after instance creation. For details, see Configuring Plaintext or Ciphertext Access to Kafka Instances.
Single-node instances do not support SASL_SSL.
The SASL_SSL setting is fixed for an instance with IPv6 enabled.
