Creating a Windows Cluster
Windows containers, developed by Microsoft, are a containerization technology designed to operate on the Windows OS, similar in concept to Linux containers. They are particularly useful in the following scenarios:
- Modernizing .NET applications: Legacy ASP.NET (4.x) applications can be containerized to facilitate easier migration and maintenance.
- Windows-dependent applications: They are ideal for web applications requiring Internet Information Services (IIS), Component Object Model Plus (COM+) and Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) components requiring traditional Windows architectures, and applications requiring Windows authentication and domain services.
- Batch processing tasks: Tasks such as Windows scheduled jobs and data processing workflows that rely on Windows tools can be efficiently containerized.
This section describes how to build a Windows cluster on Huawei Cloud based on the Alauda Container Platform.
Cluster Capability
- Kubernetes version: 1.28.6
- Windows version: Windows Server 2019 (1809) datacenter
- Network model: Only the Flannel networks are supported.
- Monitoring component: Only Prometheus is available.
Notes and Constraints
- Only Linux nodes can serve as control plane nodes. Both Linux and Windows nodes can be used as compute nodes.
- Only Linux nodes can function as GPU nodes, enabling GPU computing capabilities for clusters.
Creating a Windows Cluster
- Log in to the CCE console and click Buy Cluster in the upper right corner.
- Click Create Windows Cluster.
- On the purchase page of Alauda Container Platform, select ACP on Public Cloud (CSP managed K8s), enter the required number of virtual cores, and place an order.
- After the payment is complete, wait until the Windows cluster is deployed.
