Is the CDN Service Area Related to the Origin Server Location and ICP Filing?

CDN service area and origin location

  • The service area of a domain name has nothing to do with the origin location.

Assume that your users and origin server are located in different countries or regions. For example, users are located in the Chinese mainland while your origin server is located outside the Chinese mainland, and the service area of your domain name is set to Global. When they access a resource not cached on the local PoP, CDN needs to pull the resource from the origin server. Due to cross-border network factors (such as geographical limitations, firewall blocking, and network latency, which is beyond the control of Huawei Cloud CDN), the users may experience reduced acceleration or access failures.

CDN service area and ICP filing

  • Whether a domain name needs to be licensed does not depend on the region of the domain name provider or the area where the website server is. All that matters is the service area of your domain name. If the service area includes the Chinese mainland, the domain name must be licensed by the MIIT before being added as an acceleration domain name.
  • If your service area is outside the Chinese mainland, ICP filing is not required.
