Windows Server 2022 Desktops Cannot Be Started After Updating the Microsoft Patch KB5060842 and Restarting the System
Background and Temporary Solution
If the Microsoft patch KB5060842 released in June is installed on a Workspace desktop created using a Windows Server 2022 image, blue screen of death (BSOD) may occur after the system is restarted. You are advised to take the following temporary solution:
- Patch installed:
Restore the desktop using an existing snapshot. After the desktop is restored, do not install the patch. For details, see "Restoring a snapshot" in Snapshots.
- Patch not installed:
To ensure desktop stability, do not install the patch after the desktop is provisioned. Instead, you are advised to create a snapshot for the desktop as scheduled. For details, see Scheduled Snapshot Creation.
Affected Scope
If the patch KB5060842 is installed on a Workspace desktop created using a Windows Server 2022 image, BSOD may occur after the system is restarted.
