Testing Performance of SAP Applications

This section describes how to test the SDRS performance by comparing the time required for performing the Client Copy operations before and after SDRS protection is enabled.

1. Click Enable Protection on the Storage Disaster Recovery Service page.

   

2. Log in to the SAP system as user ddic. For details, see Checking SAP Applications.

   

3. Create a client.

   Choose SAP Menu > Tools > Administration > Administration > Client Administration > Client Maintenance.

   

4. In the dialog box that is displayed, choose Table View > Display-Change.

   

5. Click New Entries.

   

6. Enter the client parameters, save the settings, and exit.

   

7. Choose Table View > Change-Display to save the settings.

   

8. Assign the login permission to the new client, return to the home page, enter RZ10 in the search box, and press Enter.

   

9. The initial profile cannot be selected. In the dialog box that is displayed, choose Utilities > Import profiles > Of active servers.

   

10. Select DEFAULT for Profile name and Default Profile for Prof.type.

    

11. Select Extended maintenance and click Change.

    

12. Click Parameter.

    

13. Enter the parameter name LOGIN/NO_AUTOMATIC_USER_SAPSTART, set it to 0, and click Copy to save the setting and exit.

    

14. Save the settings and exit.

    

15. Repeat the preceding steps to create the second client.

    

16. Restart SAP.

    

17. Log in to the SAP GUI using the created client. The username is SAP* and the password is pass.

    

    

18. Choose SAP Menu > Tools > Administration > Administration > Client Administration > Client Copy > Local Copy.

    

19. Enter 000 for Source Client, select SAP_ALL under Profiles, and click Start Immediately.

    

    

20. Click Continue to start the replication.

    

21. After the client copy operation is complete, click Log Display.

    

22. Record the operation duration. The duration of Client Copy is 1 hour and 13 minutes when SDRS protection is enabled

    

23. Click Disable Protection and perform the Client Copy operation again.

    

24. Log in to another new client 302.

    

25. Perform the Client Copy operation.

    

    

26. Wait until the operation is complete and record the operation duration.

    

    As shown in the preceding figure, when SDRS protection is enabled, the Client Copy operation takes 1 hour and 12 minutes.

Conclusion: By comparing the time required for performing the preceding two Client Copy operations, you can find that the duration of the Client Copy operation does not change before and after SDRS protection is enabled. Therefore, enabling or disabling SDRS protection has no obvious impact on the application performance.
