Managing a Feature Tree

After creating a feature tree (see Creating a Feature Tree), you can import, export, and compare its version snapshots in the project.

Prerequisites

You have created a feature set in an IPD-standalone software project, and have feature set permissions for the project.

Procedure

On the project homepage, choose Work > Req > Feature Tree, and perform the following operations.

Search for feature set

  1. On the project homepage, choose Feature Tree.
  2. Enter a keyword in the search box to search for the target feature set.

Associate system feature with feature set

You can create system features or associate existing ones with a feature tree. System features of the same type can be put in the same feature set for easy management.

  • Creating a system feature
    1. Click the name of the feature set to associate a system feature.
    2. Click SF.
    3. Enter system feature information. For details, see Procedure.
    4. Click OK. The new system feature is displayed under the corresponding feature set.

Create feature tree baseline snapshot

You can create a baseline based on the current feature tree version.

  1. On the project homepage, choose Feature Tree.
  2. Click . The Feature Tree Version Snapshot dialog box is displayed.

  3. Enter a snapshot name.
  4. Click OK.

    The creation process will not be interrupted by refreshing the page, closing the browser, or closing the dialog box. To view the created version, click History Version.

Compare feature tree version snapshots

You can compare feature tree snapshots of different versions.

  1. On the project homepage, choose Feature Tree.
  2. Click and select Compare Snapshots. The snapshot comparison page is displayed.
  3. Select the baseline snapshot version to be compared.
  4. Click the name of the system feature to be compared. The work item version comparison page is displayed.

    If a system feature is snapshotted for multiple times on the feature tree page, multiple versions will be generated. You can select and compare different versions.

    To compare system feature versions, check historical versions on the Feature Tree page.

    1. On the project homepage, choose Feature Tree.

    2. Click the SF name to be compared. On the details page, click on the right and select History Version. On the displayed page, select the snapshot version to be compared and click the version comparison icon. The work item version comparison page is displayed.

Import feature tree

Use the provided template to import a feature tree.
  1. On the project homepage, choose Feature Tree.
  2. Click Import under on the right of the page.
  3. In the displayed dialog box, click Download Template.

    You can edit the name of the downloaded template.

  4. Set the fields in the Feature Tree Import sheet of the template.

    For details about how to set parameters, see the Notes and header instructions in the template file.

  5. Drag and drop the desired file to the import area or click the import area and select the file.
  6. Click Next. The verification progress dialog box is displayed.

    After the verification progress reaches 100%, close the dialog box and view the verification result. If the mandatory fields fail the verification, the import is not allowed, while the verification result of optional fields does not affect the import.

    • If the verification is successful, click Confirm Import.
    • If the verification fails, modify the file based on the verification result. Click Last step to import the modified file.
  7. After the verification is successful, click Confirm Import. The import progress dialog box is displayed. You can click Check progress in the dialog box to go to the Import/Export Records page to view the import records.
  8. Imported information can be viewed in the SF list. If the import fails, a message is displayed on the page. Click View Failure Details in the message to view the failure details. You can modify the requirement information based on the details and import the template file again.

Export feature tree

Export a feature tree with desired fields to an Excel file.
  1. On the project homepage, choose Feature Tree.
  2. Click on the right of History Version, and select Export.
  3. In the displayed dialog box, select fields to be exported.
  4. Click Export. An export progress dialog box is displayed.
    • You can click Check progress in the dialog box to go to the Import/Export Records page to view the export records.
    • In the export progress dialog box, click Download to download the file to your local PC. The file format is .xlsx.
