Overview

Application migration projects collect resources for servers, storage devices, containers, middleware, databases, and big data. They also support server and storage migration. Table 1 lists the details.

Migration Journeys

This function is built on proven cloud migration methodologies. It breaks down complex migrations into clear phases and actionable tasks, helping you manage workloads and coordinate teams more efficiently. It provides ready-to-use templates for migrating databases, Large Language Models (LLMs), and containerized applications, guiding you step by step through the entire journey. Whether you are moving data from other clouds or IDCs to Huawei Cloud, you will benefit from comprehensive guidance, tool tutorials, and curated migration resources.

TCO Analysis

The following functions are provided:

  • TCO Analysis for On-Prem to Cloud Migration: Specify your on-premises infrastructure details to estimate the cost savings you can realize by migrating on-premises workloads to Huawei Cloud.
  • TCO Analysis for Cross-Cloud Migration Using Credentials: Input the source cloud credentials to allow MgC to analyze your source bills, identify what and how many source resources you used, match the source resources with Huawei Cloud alternatives, and then compare the cost of your source environment with the cost on Huawei Cloud.
  • TCO Analysis for Cross-Cloud Migration Using Bills: Upload the source bills to allow MgC to analyze the bills, identify what and how many source resources you used, match the source resources with Huawei Cloud alternatives, and then compare the cost of your source environment with the cost on Huawei Cloud.

Credential-based analysis is applicable to source servers of AWS and Alibaba Cloud. Bill-based analysis is applicable to source servers of AWS.

Resource Discovery

MgC provides multiple resource survey and collection methods for servers, storage, databases, and middleware. The following features are included:

  • Online Discovery: It discovers and collects source cloud resources online through the public network.
  • Intranet Discovery: After you deploy the MgC Agent within your source network, MgC helps you discover and collect server information from your IDC and VMware environments, either by scanning network segments or by connecting directly to vCenter.
  • Importing RVTools Data: Export the resource list from RVTools, then import it to MgC.
  • Importing Cloud Resource Details: Export a resource list in CSV format from another cloud platform, then import it to MgC. MgC will automatically parse these files, identify resources, and display details in the resource list.
  • Online Discovery: Supported source platforms include Alibaba Cloud, Huawei Cloud, AWS, Tencent Cloud, Google Cloud, and Azure.
  • Intranet Discovery: Only VMs in VMware vSphere 5.0 to 7.0 can be discovered.
  • Importing RVTools Data: The exported file must be in XLSX format. The size of the imported file cannot exceed 100 MB, and the compression ratio cannot be lower than 5%.
  • Importing Cloud Resource Details: Resource lists exported from Alibaba Cloud or Azure are supported.

Cloud Migration Assessment

MgC provides comprehensive migration assessment services to help you efficiently and securely complete cloud migration. The following features are included:

  • Target end recommendation: After assessing the source end, the system recommends rightsized Huawei Cloud resources accordingly. It takes into account the specifications, performance, application scenarios, cost, availability, and security compliance requirements.
  • Migration risk assessment: MgC identifies potential risks in advance, including but not limited to general compatibility, firmware compatibility, and specification differences.
  • Storage migration assessment: MgC uses inputs such as the number and size of source files, expected migration duration, and other parameters to estimate the time and cost of cloud migration. It also offers multiple migration options, comparing their costs and benefits to support informed decision-making.
  • Big data migration assessment: MgC dynamically evaluates cluster resource requirements and reporting frequency based on data table size and change volume, following industry best practices to optimize migration efficiency.
  • Target end recommendation: This is applicable to servers, databases, object storage, containers, and middleware.
  • Migration risk assessment: This is applicable to servers only.

Server Migration

MgC provides different task types suitable for various server migration scenarios. For details, see Server Migration Tasks.

Migration Plans

NOTE:

This function will be unavailable soon due to service upgrade and optimization. To ensure service continuity, complete the created migration tasks as soon as possible. If you need to perform new migration tasks, use the server migration or storage migration function in the migration implementation module.

MgC provides scenario-specific templates to help you orchestrate migration workflows efficiently. These templates can be used in the following scenarios:

  • Batch Server Migration: adding servers to the same migration plan
  • Cross-AZ Batch Server Migration: migrating servers from a Huawei Cloud AZ to another AZ
  • Batch Object Storage Migration: migrating multiple object storage buckets from the source end
  • Batch File Storage Migration: migrating resources in multiple file storage addresses from the source end

For details about the constraints of each migration plan, see Notes and Constraints.

Migration Workflows

NOTE:

This function will be unavailable soon due to service upgrade and optimization. To ensure service continuity, complete the created migration tasks as soon as possible. If you need to perform new migration tasks, use the server migration or storage migration function in the migration implementation module.

Each resource, such as servers, object storage, and file storage, can be migrated independently. Their execution status is displayed in real time. You can set checkpoints in the migration phase or step of a workflow to control the migration process.

To ensure proper resource allocation and stable system running, the following quota limits are set for workflows:

  • Maximum number of workflows created per day: You can create up to 50 migration workflows per day in a migration project.
  • Resource limit for running resources: You can migrate up to 200 resources at the same time. Any additional resources beyond this limit will have their workflows paused at the initial step and stay in a pending state. Once other migrations complete, these workflows will automatically resume in the order they were created.
  • Resource limit for a single workflow: You can include up to 100 resources in a single workflow.

Migration Tool Center

MgC consolidates tools for various migration scenarios including server, storage, database, middleware, and container migrations into a unified platform. You can create migration tasks with a few clicks, improving operation convenience and efficiency.

-

Task Center

The Migration Task Center enables you to centrally manage migration tasks. It helps you monitor and manage migration tasks that have been configured and started.

Migration Clusters

You can create dedicated migration clusters to accelerate storage migration. A migration cluster consists of nodes that have the migration plugin installed and are used to execute migration and listing tasks.

Migration clusters incur additional costs. For details, see Billing.
