Working with EVS Disks

When using EVS, you often need to perform operations on EVS disks, such as creating, attaching, and expanding them. However, if you are using EVS for the first time, you may find the operation process unfamiliar, which can reduce efficiency. This section walks you through the common operations performed on EVS disks throughout their lifecycle.

Step 1: Create a disk.

Creating an empty data disk

If the disk is purchased on the EVS console (see Purchasing Disks On the EVS Console), you must initialize it before using it.

If the disk is purchased together with the ECS, you must initialize it before using it.

Creating an empty system disk

If the disk is purchased together with the ECS, it is ready for use immediately. You do not need to manually attach or initialize it.

Creating a disk from a snapshot

A disk created from a snapshot already contains data, so it does not need to be initialized. You can use it after mounting its partitions on mount points. For details, see Creating a Disk from a Snapshot.

Creating a disk from a backup

A disk created from a backup already contains data, so it does not need to be initialized. You can use it after mounting its partitions on mount points. For details, see Purchasing Disks On the EVS Console.

Creating a disk from an image

A disk created from an image already contains data, so it does not need to be initialized. You can use it after mounting its partitions on mount points. For details, see Purchasing Disks On the EVS Console.

Step 2: Attach the disk.

This step is only required for data disks that have not been attached. For details, see Attaching an EVS Disk.

Step 3: Initialize the disk.

The disk does not need to be partitioned, but file systems are required.

The disk is attached to a Linux server and needs to be partitioned.

The disk is attached to a Windows server and needs to be partitioned.
