Using the Recycle Bin of GeminiDB DynamoDB-Compatible API
Scenarios
During routine database management, GeminiDB DynamoDB-Compatible instances may be accidentally deleted due to unintended operations or changes in business requirements, resulting in data loss and disrupting business continuity. To address this, GeminiDB DynamoDB-Compatible API moves backups of deleted pay-per-use instances and unsubscribed yearly/monthly instances to the recycle bin, from which instances can be rebuilt to restore data and ensure business continuity.
Usage Notes
- The recycling policy is enabled by default and cannot be disabled. Instances in the recycle bin are retained for 7 days by default, and this will not incur any charges.
- If you delete the backup of an instance running out of storage, it will not be moved to the recycle bin.
- If you delete the backup of an instance that fails to be created, it will not be moved to the recycle bin.
- Operations after an instance is deleted
- If the instance has automated full backups, the system keeps the most recent automated full backup of the previous day. If there is no automated full backup generated on that day, it retains the latest available one and moves it to the recycle bin.
- If there are fewer than 100 backups in the recycle bin, the system will create a full backup and move it to the recycle bin.
- You can select one of the backups to rebuild the instance.
Modifying the Recycling Policy
A new recycling policy only applies to backups that were moved to the recycle bin after the new policy was put into effect. For backups that were moved to the recycle bin before the modification, the original recycling policy takes effect.
- Log in to the Huawei Cloud console.
- On the Recycle Bin page, click Modify Recycling Policy. In the displayed dialog box, set the retention period (range: 1 to 7 days) for the deleted instance backups. Then, click OK. Figure 1 Modifying a recycling policy
Rebuilding an Instance
Within the retention period, you can rebuild an instance from its backup.
- Log in to the Huawei Cloud console.
- On the Recycle Bin page, locate the target instance backup and click Rebuild in the Operation column. Figure 2 Rebuilding an instance
- On the displayed page, configure required parameters and submit the task.
