What Do I Do If a Source Server's Name I Modified on the SMS Console Is Overwritten After the SMS-Agent Is Restarted?

Symptom

You had changed the source server's name on the SMS console, but the name was changed back to the original one after SMS-Agent was restarted.

Possible Causes

The migration task is in the Pending target configuration state, and the source server is in Verifying state at the background. In this case, when the SMS-Agent is restarted on the source server, the source server information will be updated and verified again.

Solution

To ensure that the source server's name remains unchanged after the SMS-Agent is restarted, you need to change the source server's name after you configure the target server. After the target server configuration is complete, it signals the end of the pre-migration checks, and the source server moves to the next state. From this point forward, even if the SMS-Agent is restarted, the source server's information will no longer be updated.
