OMS Functions

This section describes the main functions of OMS.

APIs

OMS provides Representational State Transfer (REST) APIs, allowing you to make HTTPS requests to perform operations such as creating, querying, modifying, or deleting tasks. For more information, see API Overview.

Permissions Management

Identity and Access Management (IAM) can be used for fine-grained permissions management for your OMS resources. With IAM, you can:

  • Create IAM users for employees based on your enterprise's organizational structure. Each IAM user will have their own security credentials for accessing OMS resources.
  • Grant users only the permissions required to perform a given task based on their job responsibilities.
  • Entrust a Huawei Cloud account or cloud service to perform professional and efficient O&M on your OMS resources.

Service Cutover

OMS provides multiple cutover solutions. You can select a proper solution based on your requirements. For more information, see Best Practices for Service Cutover.

Archived Data Migration

Archived data must be restored before it can be migrated. If you use OMS to restore and migrate archived data directly, the migration process may take a long time. To improve efficiency, you can restore the archived data before starting the migration.

OMS provides solutions for migrating archived data from different clouds to Huawei Cloud. For more information, see Archived Data Migration Solutions.

Error Codes

If an error code starting with APIGW is returned after you call an API, rectify the fault by referring to the instructions provided in API Gateway Error Codes. For more information, see Error Codes.

Flexible Object Selection

  • Selecting source objects: You can select files or folders, specify object prefixes, or use an object or URL list to choose what data will be migrated.
  • Filtering source objects: You can also migrate objects generated after a specified time.

Migration Task Groups

  • For a large-scale migration, you can create a migration task group, and OMS automatically splits the large migration task into multiple sub-tasks to maximize concurrency performance.
  • You can easily manage migration tasks in a task group.

Efficient Transmission

  • Parallel migration: OMS supports parallel migrations of multiple objects.
  • Archived data restoration: OMS can automatically restore archived data and migrate it to destination buckets.
  • Migration using custom domain names: OMS can migrate data from source buckets with custom domain names configured.
  • Object recording: OMS can record any objects that failed to be migrated and retransfer them during subsequent attempts.
  • Traffic limiting: OMS allows you to limit bandwidths available for migration in different time segments.
  • Resumable transfer: If the network is interrupted during migration, OMS allows you to manually restart the task and pick up where you left off. There is no need to start from scratch.

Result Notifications

Migration tasks may take a long time, and you can use the Simple Message Notification (SMN) service to get notifications about migration results by email, SMS message, or custom URL.
