Why a Black Screen Is Displayed When the MSTSC Client is Used to Access a Host Resource?

Symptom

A black screen is displayed when the MSTSC client is used to access host resources.

Solutions

  1. Open the group policy on the local computer and go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Terminal Server Client directory.
  2. Right-click Terminal Server Client and choose New > DWORD (32-bit) Value (D) from the shortcut menu to create a DWORD.
  3. Name DWORD to RemoteDesktop_SuppressWhenMinimized and set its value to 2.

An Error Message Is Displayed After the Registry Is Modified

If a message is displayed indicating that the remote computer cannot be connected after you modify the registry, perform the following operations.

  1. Start Remote Desktop Connection, click Show Options, and select Display.
  2. Reduce the resolution of the display configuration and change the color to the enhanced color (16 bits).
  3. Click Experience and set the connection speed to Low-speed broadband (256 kbps - 2 Mbps).
