Step 1: Making Preparations

Before using OBS, you need to register a HUAWEI CLOUD account or an IAM user account that can access OBS. This section describes how to register a HUAWEI CLOUD account, complete real-name authentication, create an IAM user, top up an account, and purchase a resource package.

Registering with HUAWEI CLOUD and Completing Real-Name Authentication

If you already have a HUAWEI CLOUD account, skip this step. If you do not have a HUAWEI CLOUD account, perform the following steps.

  1. Visit https://www.huaweicloud.com/en-us/ and click Register.
  2. On the displayed Register page, register an account as prompted. For details, see Registering on the HUAWEI CLOUD Management Console.

After you have successfully registered, the system automatically redirects you to your personal information page.

  3. Complete real-name authentication by following the instructions in Individual Real-Name Authentication.

Creating an IAM User

IAM users are created and managed by accounts. In this way, the security of accounts and resources can be better protected. For details, see Creating an IAM User. This section describes how to create an IAM user who has the OBS access permissions. If you do not need to use any IAM user, skip this step.

  1. On the HUAWEI CLOUD website, click Console in the upper right corner and use the registered account to log in to the console.
  2. On the management console, hover over the username in the upper right corner, and choose Identity and Access Management from the drop-down list.
  3. Create a user group.

For details, see Creating a User Group. After the user group is created, choose Global service > OBS in the User Group Permissions area, and configure one or more OBS policies for the user group based on your actual needs. For details about OBS policies, see Permissions Management.

  4. Create a user.

For details, see Creating an IAM User. When creating a user, set the User Group to the one created in 3 with OBS permissions configured.

Topping Up Your Account

OBS uses the pay-per-use billing mode by default. You only pay for what you use. The billing items include the use duration (by hour), used storage space, and number of initiated requests. There is no minimum fee required. For details about the price, see Product Pricing Details - Pay per Use.

When you use OBS in the pay-per-use billing mode, you are advised to top up your account first. For details, see Topping Up an Account Ensure that your account has sufficient balance. If your account balance is sufficient, skip this part.

Purchasing Resource Packages

OBS also provides yearly/monthly resource packages. You can purchase such packages according to your usage plan. The yearly/monthly resource packages cover the following options: storage, multi-AZ storage, outbound traffic over Internet, and pull traffic. For details about prices of different resource packages, see Product Pricing Details - Yearly/Monthly

If you prefer to use resource packages, purchase them according to the following procedure: If you do not need to use resource packages, skip this step.

  1. Log in to OBS Console using an account or as an IAM user.
  2. On the OBS Console homepage, click Buy OBS Package in the upper right corner. The Buy OBS Package page is displayed.
  3. Set the parameters as prompted.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Confirm your order information and click Submit.

If the order information is incorrect, click Previous to modify it and then continue purchasing.

  6. Pay for the order as prompted.

Precautions of purchasing packages are as follows:

Currently, renewal is supported but unsubscription is not. When a package expires, you can still use OBS resources, and data security in OBS is ensured. Make sure that your account balance is sufficient and the system will automatically settle the charges in the pay-per-use mode.

Monthly resetting rules for traffic packages are as follows:

The resetting is performed by calendar months. If outbound traffic is generated, the quota of the outbound traffic package is consumed first and additional traffic beyond the package quota is settled in the pay-per-use mode. For example, you purchase an outbound traffic package of 2 TB for 6 months on April 15. Then you have 2 TB outbound traffic available to use from April 15 to April 30. At 00:00:00 on May 1, you will get another 2 TB outbound traffic for use in May. The remaining traffic of the last month is cleared. At 00:00:00 on June 1, another 2 TB outbound traffic is assigned to you and so forth until your purchased package expires.
