Changing Vault Specifications

Scenarios

During routine operations, databases (such as MySQL, SQL Server, and HANA) usually have special backup mechanisms (such as transaction freezing and snapshot coordination) to ensure data consistency. Common server backup vaults can only store common backups. The disk snapshots in these backups cannot detect the database's running status, so they cannot guarantee data consistency at the time of backup. If you back up a server with a database installed as a common server, the database may fail to start or data may be lost during restoration. To prevent this issue, you should convert the existing common server backup vault into a database server backup vault.

Server backup vaults are available in two types: common server backup vaults and database server backup vaults.

• Common server backup vaults store backups of non-database servers.
• Database server backup vaults store backups of database servers.

If you need to back up database servers, you can change the specifications of the target vault from a server backup vault to a database backup vault. You can also create a database backup vault. For details, see Buying a Cloud Server Backup Vault. During the creation, enable database backup.

This section describes how to change an existing common server backup vault to a database server backup vault.

Constraints

You can only change the specifications from a common server backup vault to a database server backup vault, but not the other way around.

Procedure

1. Log in to the CBR console. Click in the upper left corner and select a region.
2. On the Cloud Server Backups page, find the target vault. Then, choose More > Change Vault Type in the Operation column of the vault. See Figure 1.

3. Set Backup Type to Application-Consistent Backup.

   An application-consistent backup captures data in memory and allows applications to achieve a quiescent and consistent state. For details, see Database Server Backup.

4. Click Next.
5. Click Pay and complete the payment. The system automatically changes the vault specifications.

   After the change, the vault specifications in the vault list are changed from Server backup to Application-consistent backup.
