What Do I Do If Error Message "CondaHTTPError: HTTP 404 NOT FOUND for url..." Is Displayed When I Create a Conda Environment in a Notebook Instance?

Symptom

When users create a Conda environment in a notebook instance and specify a Python version, the system displays an "HTTP 404 NOT FOUND" error message, indicating that the required dependency packages libuuid and readline were not found in the Conda source. The error information is as follows:

CondaHTTPError: HTTP 404 NOT FOUND for url <https://mirrors.tuna.tsinghua.edu.cn/anaconda/pkgs/main/linux-aarch64/libuuid-1.41.5-h998d150_0.tar.bz2>
Elapsed: 00:00.099365

An HTTP error occurred when trying to retrieve this URL.
HTTP errors are often intermittent, and a simple retry will get you on your way.

Elapsed: 00:00.085696

Possible Causes

The image source does not contain the dependency packages.

Solution

You can add additional Conda channels, which include these missing packages.

  1. Run the following command to add the pkgs/free channel:
    conda config --add channels https://mirrors.tuna.tsinghua.edu.cn/anaconda/pkgs/free/
  2. Run the following command to add the conda-forge channel:
    conda config --add channels https://mirrors.tuna.tsinghua.edu.cn/anaconda/cloud/conda-forge/
  3. After adding the channels, run the following command to recreate the Conda environment and specify the desired Python version:
    conda create -n myenv python=3.x
