CPU Architecture

Description

CPU architecture of the resource type, which can be x86 or Arm. Choose the CPU architecture that matches your needs: x86 for GPUs or Arm for NPUs. The available flavors vary by region.

If no flavor is available, contact Huawei Cloud technical support.

  • x86

The x86 CPU architecture operates on complex instruction set computing (CISC). Its instructions perform basic hardware tasks. It has many instructions with varying lengths. Executing such an instruction is complex and time-consuming. CISC works well for tasks needing fast processing, like scientific computing, data analytics, or virtualization.

GPUs like NVIDIA models often rely on an x86 resource pool with the necessary CUDA drivers installed for acceleration.

  • Arm

Arm architecture, created by Arm Holdings, offers efficient power usage and strong performance. Based on reduced instruction set computing (RISC), it works well for mobile devices, IoT applications, and edge computing, particularly where energy efficiency and extended operation matter most.

Ascend-Powered-Engine works best with Huawei's accelerator cards on Arm servers. For model training with these cards, choose a resource pool that supports the Arm architecture.
