Billed by bandwidth
Bandwidth refers to the outbound bandwidth used for traffic flowing to the public network. Bandwidth-based billing is applicable for heavy or stable workloads.

Billed by traffic
Traffic refers to the outbound traffic generated when an ECS is used. Traffic-based billing is applicable for light or sharply fluctuating workloads.

When Billed By is set to Traffic, you can set a maximum bandwidth to control burst traffic. This does not affect the network unit price.
Shared bandwidth
A shared bandwidth is used by multiple EIPs. Shared bandwidth works well for staggered workloads that want to reduce public network costs.

Can I Change the EIP Billing Mode from Bandwidth to Traffic or from Traffic to Bandwidth?

EIP supports yearly/monthly and pay-per-use billing modes. Both yearly/monthly EIP and pay-per-use EIP can be billed by bandwidth. You can switch between different billing modes.

Pay-per-use	From pay-per-use to yearly/monthly	You can change the billing mode from pay-per-use to yearly/monthly on the EIP console or in the billing center. After the change is successful, the new billing mode takes effect immediately. An EIP billed by traffic cannot be changed from pay-per-use to yearly/monthly directly. You need to change the pay-per-use EIP to be billed by bandwidth before changing the billing mode to yearly/monthly.
Yearly/Monthly	From yearly/monthly to pay-per-use	You can change the billing mode from yearly/monthly to pay-per-use in the billing center. The new billing mode takes effect only after the yearly/monthly subscription expires. A yearly/monthly EIP billed by bandwidth can only be changed to a pay-per-use EIP billed by bandwidth. After you change the billing mode, you can then configure the EIP to be billed by traffic.

Can I Modify the EIP Bandwidth for an ECS?

Bandwidth refers to the outbound bandwidth used for traffic flowing to the public network. If an ECS running your web applications cannot be accessed smoothly from the Internet, you can check whether the bandwidth used by the ECS is greater than the configured bandwidth size. If the outbound bandwidth exceeds the configured bandwidth size, there may be packet loss. To avoid this, you can change the size of the EIP bandwidth.

To do so, switch to the Elastic Cloud Server page, locate the target ECS and choose More > Manage Network > Modify Bandwidth in the Operation column.

Change the bandwidth name, billing mode, or bandwidth size as prompted.

How Do I Know If My EIP Bandwidth Limit Has Been Exceeded?

What Are Inbound Bandwidths and Outbound Bandwidths?

Inbound bandwidth is the bandwidth consumed when data is transferred from the Internet to Huawei Cloud. For example, when resources are downloaded from the Internet to ECSs, that consumes inbound bandwidth.

Outbound bandwidth is the bandwidth consumed when data is transferred from Huawei Cloud to the Internet. For example, when ECSs provide services accessible from the Internet and external users download resources from the ECSs, that consumes outbound bandwidth.
