Changing DNS Servers for a Public Domain Name

Scenarios

The DNS servers of a domain name determine which DNS service provider will provide resolution services for the domain name. After you purchase a domain name, the registrar assigns its own DNS servers by default. For example, a domain name purchased from Huawei Cloud uses Huawei Cloud DNS servers by default. Before configuring record sets for a domain name in Huawei Cloud DNS, ensure that the domain name uses Huawei Cloud DNS servers. If it does not, go to the platform of your domain name registrar to change the DNS servers.

This section describes how to change the DNS servers of a domain name to Huawei Cloud DNS servers. Select one of the following options based on your domain name registrar:

• If your domain name is registered with Huawei Cloud, log in to the Huawei Cloud console using the account that registered the domain name and change the DNS servers.
• If your domain name is registered with a third-party registrar (for example, Alibaba Cloud or Tencent Cloud), go to the platform of the domain name registrar to change the DNS servers.

Prerequisites

You have queried and confirmed that the current DNS server addresses of the domain name do not include any of the Huawei Cloud DNS servers below.

• ns1.huaweicloud-dns.com: DNS server for regions in the Chinese mainland
• ns1.huaweicloud-dns.cn: DNS server for regions in the Chinese mainland
• ns1.huaweicloud-dns.net: DNS server for countries or regions outside the Chinese mainland
• ns1.huaweicloud-dns.org: DNS server for countries or regions outside the Chinese mainland

Changing DNS Servers for a Domain Name Registered with Huawei Cloud

If your domain name is registered and managed on the Huawei Cloud Chinese mainland website, log in to the Huawei Cloud Chinese mainland website to change the DNS server addresses of the domain name.

1. Log in to the Huawei Cloud Chinese mainland website console.
2. In the service list, choose Domain & Website > Domain Registration.
3. In the domain name list, click the domain name to go to its details page.
4. View and change the DNS servers of the domain name.

   If your domain name is hosted on Huawei Cloud DNS, change the DNS servers to those provided by Huawei Cloud DNS.

   • ns1.huaweicloud-dns.com: DNS server for regions in the Chinese mainland
   • ns1.huaweicloud-dns.cn: DNS server for regions in the Chinese mainland
   • ns1.huaweicloud-dns.net: DNS server for countries or regions outside the Chinese mainland
   • ns1.huaweicloud-dns.org: DNS server for countries or regions outside the Chinese mainland

Changing the DNS Servers of a Third-party Registrar

If a domain name is registered with a third-party registrar, go to the system of that registrar and change the DNS servers to those provided by Huawei Cloud DNS.

Verifying That the DNS Server Change of the Domain Name Works

New DNS server addresses will not take effect immediately. You can perform the following steps to check whether the new DNS server addresses work.

1. Add the domain name to the Huawei Cloud DNS console.
2. In the public zone list, view the DNS servers of the target domain name.

   If the current DNS servers of the domain name include Huawei Cloud DNS servers, the change works.
