If I Modify a Lifecycle Rule, When Will the New Rule Take Effect and How Will the Objects That Match the Original Rule Be Handled?

If you modify a lifecycle rule, the new rule still follows the standard lifecycle timing: Based on the last modification time of an object, OBS uses the next 00:00 (UTC) as the start time to calculate the lifecycle. Assume an object was uploaded at 09:00 on June 1, 2024 (UTC). OBS would calculate its lifecycle from 00:00 on June 2, 2024 (UTC). If the object was configured to be deleted one day later, it would be deleted at 00:00 on June 3, 2024 (UTC).

If you modify a lifecycle rule, the objects that match the original rule will still be processed according to the original rule.

For example, you have configured a lifecycle rule for objects with the prefix te to transition them to the Infrequent Access storage class 30 days after their last modification and delete them 60 days after their last modification. If you change the prefix from te to et 31 days after the object's last modification, the original lifecycle rule to transition objects to the Infrequent Access storage class 30 days after their last modification will still take effect. That is, objects prefixed with te that have not been modified within 30 days will be transitioned to the Infrequent Access storage class. The rule to delete objects 60 days after their last modification will not take effect.
