What Status Can I Set for Action Taken for Insufficient Data When Creating a Prometheus Alarm Rule?

During the creation of a Prometheus alarm rule, when you enable Action Taken for Insufficient Data, you can set Status to No Data (Alarm Sent), No Data (Event Sent), Previous Status, and Normal (Alarm Cleared). Details:

  • No Data (Alarm Sent): If no metric data is detected, an alarm is generated and displayed in the alarm list. If you have configured notification settings, an alarm notification will be sent to you.
  • No Data (Event Sent): If no metric data is detected, an event is generated and displayed in the event list.
  • Previous Status: If no metric data is detected, the status remains unchanged.
  • Normal (Alarm Cleared): If a metric value exceeds the threshold and later no metric data is detected, the threshold-crossing alarm will be cleared. If you have configured notification settings, an alarm clearance notification will be sent to you. For example, the memory usage threshold of a container is set to 80%. If the memory usage reaches 100%, a threshold-crossing alarm is reported. The container is automatically destroyed due to memory overflow. In this case, no metric data is reported for the container. If you have selected this option, the previous threshold-crossing alarm will be cleared.
