CBR stores backups in vaults, so properly plan your vault capacity and apply an automatic backup policy.
Backup Mechanism
CBR automatically backs up resources at the specified time points, saves the backups in vaults, and deletes expired backups. You can use a backup to restore data to the point when the data was backed up in the event of a fault.

Capacity Guide
Configure backup policies by referring to the following table.

| Mission-critical workloads | Periodic full backup (7 days) + Daily incremental backup (3 times) + Retention period (1 year) |
| Important workloads | Periodic full backup (30 days) + Daily incremental backup (1 time) + Retention period (half a year) |
| General workloads | No periodical full backup + Daily incremental backup + Retention period (30 days) |
- If periodic full backup is required, estimate the vault capacity using the following formula:
Full backup capacity = Disk capacity (GB) x (Backup retention period (days)/Full backup frequency (days))
Incremental backup capacity = Daily data changes (GB) x (Backup retention period (days)/Backup frequency (days))
Vault capacity = (Full backup capacity + Incremental backup capacity) x 200%
Example: A financial company has an 800 GB cloud server, has used 200 GB of it, and its daily data changes are about 10 GB. As scheduled, the company's data is backed up three times at 01:00; 05:00, 21:00 every day, a periodic full backup is performed every 7 days, and backups are retained for 30 days. The estimated vault capacity of the company is as follows:
Full backup capacity = 800 GB x 4 = 3,200 GB
Incremental backup capacity = 10 GB x (30/1) = 300 GB
Vault capacity = (3,200 GB + 300 GB) x 200% = 7,000 GB
- If periodic full backup is not required, you can simply configure the vault capacity twice the size of the resources to be backed up, or estimate the vault capacity using the following formula:
Vault capacity (GB) = [Disk capacity (GB) + Backup retention period (days)/Backup frequency (days) x Daily data changes (GB)] x 120%
Example: A company has an 800 GB cloud server, has used 200 GB of it, and its daily data changes are about 10 GB. As scheduled, the company's data is backed up twice at 02:00 and 20:00 every day, and backups are retained for a month. The estimated vault capacity of the company is as follows:
Estimated vault capacity = [800+30/1 x 10] x 200% = 2,200 GB
Policy Guide
It is recommended that backup execution times be scheduled before the time points when routine installations or deletions are executed. This way, data can be restored to the latest backup point in the event of a fault.
Example: A customer usually performs O&M operations for critical documents at 22:00 on every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, so the customer configures the backup policy to perform backups at 21:00 on every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and retain backups of the latest 7 days.
