RES13-05 Quota Restrictions on Automatic Capacity Expansion

When an application system is automatically expanded to address insufficient resources, if the remaining quota is not enough, the automatic capacity expansion fails.

  • Risk level

    High

  • Key strategies

To manage resource usage, quotas can be set to limit the number and capacity of resources available. For example, quotes can be set to limit the number of ECS instances or EVS disks that can be created. For dynamic resources, their quotas must be considered to avoid access being affected when the quota is used up. The maximum capacity configured for automatic expansion must not exceed the corresponding resource quota.

Alarm policies can be configured to trigger notifications when any resource exceeds a specified usage level, avoiding its quota being used up.

  • Related cloud services and tools

A quota page on Huawei Cloud displays the total and used quotas of resources of different types in each service. An application can be submitted to increase the quota of a specified resource of a cloud service. And alarm policies can be configured to trigger notifications whenever a resource exceeds a specified usage level, so a quota application can be submitted in a timely manner if needed.

When AS is involved in the application system, the possibility that the AS configuration is restricted by quotas must be considered. For example, the maximum number of instances specified in AS may fail to be created because of the insufficient quota left for resources in, for example, ECS, EVS, or Elastic IP, affecting service access.
