License-related Concepts

  • License: A license is an agreement reached between the supplier and customer, authorizing the scope and period of using the purchased product (software in this document). The license enables you to obtain the services committed by the supplier. A license is composed of a license file and a license entitlement certificate.
  • License entitlement certificate

A license entitlement certificate is also called a license certificate. It records license-related information such as the product name, entitlement ID (originally called LAC, which is short for license authorization code), customer name, and validity period. The certificate is used as credentials of owning a Huawei product license. A license entitlement certificate is delivered with products in electronic format (PDF file), and can be downloaded from the Electronic Software Delivery Platform (ESDP) and then printed.

Only commercial licenses have license entitlement certificates.

  • ESDP

ESDP is a system used by Huawei to generate and issue license keys based on purchase orders (POs) or application information and to manage license information.

  • Equipment serial number (ESN)

An ESN, also called device fingerprint, uniquely identifies a device and is key to authorizing a license to a specific device.

  • LAC

An LAC, also called entitlement ID, is generated on the ESDP and used to authenticate users. On the ESDP website, you can enter license-related information, such as the LAC and ESN, to activate a license file. Huawei defines a LAC as an essential part of each license entitlement certificate.
